Michael
VFL Wolfsburg have bought Czech international winger Vaclav Cerny for 8 millions euros from Dutch team Twente Enschede. Cerny was Twente's top scorer last season and he was also their top goal assist maker. He helped Twente finish 5th in the Eredivisie league table and he also inspired them to win the European competition play-offs, which means that Twente will play in the Europa Conference League next season. Cerny was arguably Twente's best player last year and he particularly had a strong finish to the season with Twente, where he was awarded the Eredivisie Player of the Month for May. In total, Cerny scored 6 goals for Twente in 4 league matches in May. A key performance for Cerny during May, was how he inspired Twente to beat his former club Ajax 3-1. Cerny started the move for Twente's 1st goal, he directly assisted the 2nd goal with a lovely floated pass into the area and he sealed the win with a lovely solo goal of his own, where he took on several players before unleashing an unstoppable goal with a left footed shot from outside the area. Cerny is also now an established figure in the Czech Republic starting 11. 8 million euros seems a bargain for a player as talented as Cerny. However, Cerny has been very injury prone throughout his career, with many injuries. He has had many injuries, but two very serious injuries. The 1st of which was during the 2017/18 season, when he was at Ajax and this particular cruciate ligament injury kept him out for almost a year. His 2nd serous injury was when he was at Twente and this knee injury again kept him out for almost a year, from January 2021 to November 2021. So Wolfsburg's challenge will be to try and keep Cerny fit and healthy. If they can do that, he promises to be an excellent signing for them.
