Michael
Portuguese League Champions Benfica have bought Ukrainian international goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin for €10 million from Shakhtar Donetsk, with an additional €1 million going to Shakhtar in bonuses. But a key and positive structure to the deal from Shakhtar's perspective, is that Shakhtar Donetsk will receive 40% of the next transfer fee in the future for Trubin, if and when he leaves Benfica for another club. The appointment of Rebrov as Ukraine's manager in June 2023, has seen Trubin become Ukraine's first choice keeper. Rebrov seems to favour Trubin over Lunin and Buschan,, two keepers who were previously preferred by other Ukrainian managers over the young Trubin. Trubin, who is still only 22 years old, already has 7 international caps for Ukraine. He also has plenty of Champions League experience with Shakhtar Donetsk, having first played in Europe's biggest club competition in 2020. At 6 foot 6 inches, Trubin is one of the tallest footballers around. His height, reflexes and agility are some of his strengths. Moving to Benfica seems like a great sporting move for Trubin. The giant Ukrainian has been given the number 1 shirt at Benfica and it is suggested that he will replace the impressive Greek international keeper Vlachodimos as 1st choice goalie for Benfica.
