190 Premier League Games To Be Televised from 2019/2020

And that's a minimum of 190.

Quote

A minimum of 190 Premier League games will be televised live in Britain from start of the 2019-20 season.

Premier League chairmen voted unanimously for the package, with the rights set to go out to auction before Christmas.

A new package of Saturday night games is likely to be offered to broadcasters, along with more midweek and Bank Holiday matches.

There will be a minimum of 22 additional live games on offer.

The next Premier League deal will likely herald an even greater battle for the remote control in households across the country.

That's because of the looming Saturday night prime-time clash between live top-flight football and big shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor.

But where will fans watch? Sky and BT will without doubt be in the mix once again for the bundles of games on offer.

The other X Factor in this tender process could be the big US tech companies such as Amazon and Apple. They are increasingly showing an appetite for live sports rights, as demonstrated by Amazon's recent deal for US Open tennis.

The industry speculation is that this tender process may have come too soon for the internet giants to make any major splash. It could, however, provide a taste for what lies ahead for both the Premier League and supporters.

Was only a matter of time before we moved to Saturday Night prime time like the rest of Europe.

Just waiting for the Premier League to introduce a Sunday Night prime time slot and they'll have successfully destroyed Saturday afternoon's.

Looking at it looks to be a natural progression for the EPL. Later games will only help the league become more popular in America and South America.

Will also be another useful slot for Champions League teams. Helps more rest before an upcoming game, instead of being on Sunday, and more rest after a game instead of Saturday lunchtime kickoff.

surely with all this money being pumped in to the game now there has to be some help for match-going fans?

Especially when something like Southampton vs Newcastle is chosen for TV on Saturday evening or Bank Holiday Monday (why do Newcastle fans always get screwed over?).

Anyway, something should have come in for fans long time ago when TV money eclipsed £1bn. It's now going to be over 5x that and I still think fans are made to pay obscene amounts to watch their beloved teams.

Possibly because our southern fanbase is so big we will still sell out. If the away end was empty they might say oops.

The 12:30 kick off away at Chelsea last weekend was full of expats who don't know any of the songs.

Look at the football schedule this Saturday night:

France: 7pm - five matches

Germany: 6.30pm - Gladbach v Schalke

Italy: 8.45pm - Juventus v Inter

Spain: 8.45pm - Valencia v Celta Vigo

Yes the culture is very different in England but every major country is already doing this so we shouldn't be surprised. Not that I'm saying it's a good thing.

I read an article the other week that broke down the figures of the last television deal and came to the conclusion that the difference in profit between the two television deals was the size of the gate receipts effectively making them worthless. The fact nothing has changed makes me think nothing will. The club's care just as much for the supporters as they do for the customers.
