FIGC - Tavecchio to Resign; Elections to Follow

Never mind his record as head of the federation, the fact that a man with history of racists, xenophobia and homophobic remarks was in charge of a sport is mind-blowing. Yet, even after that he was elected back into his current position (with Juventus and Roma the only clubs didn't back him in 2014).

This doesn't just speak for the running of the national team, but the type of people who are running football clubs in Italy and the thinly veiled attempt to remove racist from not only Italian football but Italian culture as a whole.

Tommasi, at least in my view is a very credible man within Italian football, and his viewsust reflect the overall consensus of players in Italy. Allegri has already threatened to leave the coaches union after their head back Tavecchio, which is unbelievable for so many reasons.

Earlier this year, clubs had a choice between a 71 year old bigot and Demetrio Albertini, a man with vast playing experience (in Italy and abroad), was involved with the FIGC (during the rebuilding of Italian football after Calciopoli) and since has been involved in rebuilding Parma. The utterly backward thinking of clubs in Italy can never cease to amaze.

Something needs to change because Italian football is stuck in the last century and very insular in their mindset. Those whispering voices of dissent that have wanted change for a number of years now need to come forward and stop being cowards... THIS is the moment they must've been waiting for.

They've been looking at whether foreign quota's might help the league and national team, yet this doesn't seem to bear any relevance as Germany has the same amount of foreign players and they won the World Cup!

The football side of things has to change before anything else can. In the marketing world you can't keep on playing the same trick as others have done expecting the same results. The longer hair gets, the thinner it becomes and the rest is history.

You only have to listen to some of their past legends and even some of their more senior players to understand why things are stuck in something very particular. I've mentioned it in another thread, but I've heard some incredible stories at infant to junior level football where free thinking and expression is capped and nipped at the bud at early ages. Even fathers get involved at that level by demanding traditional ideals to stay firm.

Indeed it does, but it just seems an opportunity pounced upon by the larger teams to create an even bigger divide between themselves and everyone else in the country. The smaller clubs in Serie A are already struggling to compete, not just Benevento this season but look at the league table last year and how Pescara were cut adrift for the majority of the season. When players are playing against sub-standard competition and the top clubs can easily collect all the top talent coming through, there is little surprise that their development will suffer. We're already a third of the way through the season and the top five clubs have barely dropped points and the vast majority of them came against each other.

Weaken the smaller clubs further by taking away more power and the big clubs will just continue to look out for themselves. Serie A will be at it's best when it has 18/20 teams in it that are all strong and compete against each other when every game is a physical, mental and tactical battle forcing the coaches and players to be at their very best. Playing the likes of Benevento and Pescara, in their weak positions, doesn't bring out the best in teams and does nothing to help the improvement of players.
