Jack Colback offered to Nottingham Forest, but deal in doubt after he turned Hull down saying it was too far south xD

So that leaves only Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Leeds as places he'd go xD moron

Or Newcastle reserves :D

Well Colback, Guedioura and Pantillimon made their debuts in this new look Aitor Karanka side. The midfielders allegedly looked unfit and the Forest fans weren' impressed with Pantillimon's shot stopping abilities. Early days, and they were playing an impressive Fulham team, but I'm sure they would have expected a better overall performance.

Midfielders looked unfit?

Tomlin will fit in well.

It seems, from the outside looking in at least, that there has been some kind of relationship breakdown between Karanka and the Forest owners and around the Christmas period, Karanka was rumoured to be sacked by the club.

However, the fans are seemingly on Karanka’s side, think he’s doing a decent job and can see the need for some form of continuity after a string of managers over the years.

Rumoured again today that Karanka is in danger of losing his job.

Just outside the playoffs and when you see the teams above them, i don't think he's doing that bad of a job?

Karanka leaves...

Nottingham Forest have parted company with manager Aitor Karanka after just a year in the job.

The 45-year-old Spaniard was appointed in January 2018 and has left the City Ground with Forest seventh in the Championship table.

His final game in charge was Saturday's FA Cup defeat by Chelsea, having beaten Leeds the previous week to move within four points of the top six.

First-team coach Simon Ireland has been put in caretaker charge of the team.

A club statement said Karanka had "asked to be released from his contract" and they had agreed to his request.

Forest, who are away to Reading on Saturday, are now looking for their 11th full-time manager since June 2011.

Karanka arrived at Forest on a two-and-a-half year deal after being sacked by Middlesbrough in March 2017, having guided them promotion to the Premier League in 2015-16.

He was backed financially in the summer, signing Benfica midfielder Joao Carvalho for a club-record fee of £13.2m and striker Lewis Grabban for a reported £6m.

However, rumours surfaced surrounding the former Real Madrid coach's future in December, when Forest slipped out of the play-off places during a run of five games without a win.

His side were 3-0 up at Norwich but surrendered the lead to draw 3-3, lost at struggling Millwall and were beaten at home by Preston and QPR.

Feel for Forest fans. They’re a pretty big club and have spent twenty years outside of the top flight, with some much smaller sides getting there and staying there for decent periods, in that time but they’ve spent the last however many years under the stewardship of poor owners.

Yeah, a five game run without a win isn’t great but they’re seventh. It’s not like they’re stuck in mid-table.

I'm guessing the relationship breakdown you mentioned yesterday has more to do with it than just on-field results. Perhaps there's more to it than meets the eye.

Martin O'Neill: Nottingham Forest to appoint club legend as manager

Nottingham Forest are set to appoint club legend Martin O'Neill as manager to succeed Aitor Karanka, reports BBC Radio Nottingham.

The 66-year-old, who played 371 games and won the European Cup as a Forest player, ended his five-year spell as Republic of Ireland boss last November.

He returns to a Reds side who are ninth in the Championship, four points outside the play-off places.

O'Neill becomes Nottingham Forest's 11th manager since June 2011.

Karanka's exit from the City Ground - with Forest still very much in the promotion race - means O'Neill arrives in a strong position both on the field and off it.

After finishing 17th in 2017-18, they invested heavily during the summer, with Joao Carvalho arriving for a club record fee of £13.2m and striker Lewis Grabban joining in a £6m deal from Bournemouth.

  • The title was changed to Nottingham Forest - Martin O'Neill Hired to Succeed Karanka

The Forest owner massively pissed off the fans by forcing Karanka out. It's no secret the majority of fans considered Karanka to be the best manager they have had at the club for a long time.

If/when the O'Neill move is confirmed, I can't help but feel this is a move to appease those fans turning on the owner. He's been clever in a way because he knows they will back a former player with strong connections to the club. O'Neill has always been loved there as a former European Cup winner. Even more so if O'Neill bring Keane with him as his assistant, another ex Forest hero.

Honest opinion on Martin O'Neill. He's always been a brilliant man manager. He has charisma, he will put his arm round players and make them want to play for him. But in terms of his football style and tactically, for me it's quite dated. I can't help but feel that maybe he's ended up at Forest 10-15 years too late.

They should have gone big for Jokanovic IMO, he was the other name heavily linked. Ultimately he is the one who has most recently had two promotions out of this division and played good football doing so. Missed opportunity by them IMO.
