A shit centre half loses his man at a corner, and a shit keeper lets a long shot go straight through him. Zenit haven’t had a single real attack. This weird 3-6-1 diamond only works if Zenit have to attack. As it stands they’re happy to give up possession and sit deep with nothing but Dembele and occasionally Tierney to threaten them. Clumsy defender who’s only good for bullying mid-table dross. Lustig should be a back-up. He’s past it and it’s impossible to play a proper back 4 because he can’t play as a proper FB anymore. Sort out the goalie situation. Refused to properly replace Gordon when he got injured and now neither of the available keepers are remotely good enough. Decent players can be got in these positions for peanuts if you’re willing to look around. Rodgers was also too slow to react. The moment it was 2-0 he should have scrapped the ultra-patient approach. Instead a whole hour was wasted passing the ball in front of Zenit before either of Musonda or Sinclair came on. This team can overwhelm quality sides when it clicks but as we’ve seen throughout his career, Rodgers’ teams are prone to collapses and he isn’t good at thinking on his feet.
