Guardiola Signs New 3-Year Contract Extension

Recommended Posts

Pep Guardiola has agreed a new and improved deal with Manchester City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the 2020/21 season

The Catalan’s new deal, which will replace his existing one that is due to expire at the end of next season, will see him take home an extra £3million a year. And it will guarantee at least three full seasons after the current campaign with Pep in charge.

This is obviously because he's consumed by the journey of exploring the limitless possibility of incredible football at Man City that the world has never seen. Nothing to do with ethically corrupt usage of lorry loads of state money... 9_9

An airline...

The point is that no one pretends that stadium sponsorship is a case of football romance whereas everything Pep does is covered in a cringeworthy manner as him doing it for the beautiful game. A very cringeworthy, Barcelona type coverage of bullshit.

He likes to play good football. The reason the press is all over him is because of how well city are doing. It happens when any manager is doing well

Just been made public today, i jumped the gun by 3mths  1zoyp7d.jpg

Manchester City are delighted to announce that Pep Guardiola has signed a contract extension that will see him remain as manager until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Guardiola, who joined in the summer of 2016, has just overseen the best season in the Club’s history, winning the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion, in addition to the League Cup secured in March after a 3-0 victory over Arsenal at Wembley.

We became the first side in English football to achieve 100 points in a top-flight campaign – and we also posted the most goals and wins in Premier League history, ensuring our place in the pantheon of great Premier League sides is secure.

His deal means this is the longest commitment he has made a football Club since becoming a manager in 2008.

“I am so happy and excited. It’s a pleasure to be able to work here,” Guardiola said.

“I enjoy working with our players every day and we will try to do our best together in the coming years. As a manager, you have to feel good to be with the players – and I feel good.

“I will focus on the desire of my players to become a better team and every day that’s what I will try to do – to improve on the pitch and improve our players. We have a young squad with an average age of 23 and we want to keep taking steps forward and maintain the levels we’ve achieved this season.”

Manchester City FC Chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, said: “We are delighted to announce the extension of Pep’s contract through to 2021. In his two seasons with us, he has fostered an incredible spirit within the squad and significantly contributed to our progress both on and off the field. In doing so he has embodied the passion and commitment we all have for the Club.

“I am very much looking forward to the continued impact of his work and to fulfilling our shared ambitions in the coming seasons.”

And Chief Executive Officer, Ferran Soriano, added: “Pep’s new contract extension is fantastic news for Manchester City. We have all been privileged to witness how we have played beautiful football, won titles, broken records and reached the incredible mark of 100 Premier League points. Pep has shown this style can succeed in the Premier League in a way it has never been done before.

HAVE YOU SEEN...

SQUAD GOALS: City celebrate together after Bernardo Silva's second half goal.
Man City: Key summer dates: With the record-breaking 2017/18 campaign done and dusted, we look ahead to the 2018/19 campaign with all the key dates you need to know...

“This season has been another step of our strategic plan and the continuous effort to improve the football we play. We are very pleased with the progress. There is more work to do and having Pep committed to Manchester City for the next three seasons gives us the stability to be able to continue our journey to beautiful football and success for the Club.”

Guardiola has won 77 of his 113 games in charge at City – a win ratio of more than 68% - and the 32 league wins he managed this season are the most he has achieved in a single campaign, beating the 31 with Barcelona in 2009/10.

He has now won 23 major trophies in nine seasons as a manager.

Everyone at City is delighted with the news and we all wish Pep well over the remainder of his time here.

As long as José owns one of these, he's a Soaniard.  Infact even without one of those he'd still be a Soaniard... He will always be one. :(

Lose the opportunity for another CL final and we'll see how long that contract lasts.

That is an interesting one to be honest because you’d say his aura and what he has achieved this season in the Premier League would buy him ample time. But he’s been signed specifically for the Champions League title as is with everything that’s going on at PSG. It looks like a battle between the two Gulf clubs as to which one will do it first... Like people with too much money playing a private game.

I think he's dying to put another CL title on his resume as well. Forget what the club wants, this is a guy who likes to win and going out never brings out his best behavior. Although I do think the club will axe him if he can't achieve that because with the team he had this year ideally they'd be expecting a semi-final finish at the least and even that didn't happen. I don't think he'll get to a final next year either but  that remains to be seen.

Ad what did Mansour do mate?  Spit crude oil through a straw at them?

Peas in a pod mate.  But yeah, City do seem to be making themselves look a lot more serious. But then again City reside in a much more serious league with clubs that can't be messed around and manipulated like in France.

Enjoying the money they got from that lot mate.

Not saying anyone is clean in any of this and I would even venture to say that there are other football authorities around the world with dirty hands, clubs too, clubs that aren't even owned by those states.  Just look at the way competition rules have been broken with tv rights to football with these massive media conglomerates.

I think life at City is a lot easier for Guardiola than at Bayern or Barca.

At Barca he was basically left alone by the board to be the sole public face of the club and received little support considering the pressure on him as the prodigal son of Barca.

At Bayern there was a better infastructure around him, but still he had to deal with a lot of big egos behind the scenes as well as a niggling sense of resistance from the fans.

None of these problems exist at City. He's got a club machine that's been basically built around him and fans that are overjoyed to have him.

Its easy imagine City could be his longest job.

At Barça there was absolutely no pressure on him as he could do no wrong even when part of the fan base disagreed with some of his outbursts later on in his tenure as head coach.  The only thing he had to cope with was invisible to the fans and the outside world which was the big club political battle going on in the background. But then again that battle is over 100 years old and will always be there.

I meant less pressure as in fans' expectation to deliver results, and more in the sense that it fell to Guardiola constantly to defend the club and his team's reputation in public. And since he was the heroic figure of the club he was often out on his own to respond to such things which probably directly led to more weird outbursts.
