Undoubtedly some good players in that squad who can go down as decent Premier League players over the years but there was no real star quality in that side (maybe Mahrez if he performs at City). A true definition of greater than the sum of its parts. See also, that Ipswich Town team that finished about 6th in the Premier League in the early 00’s. I'd argue that Schmeichel and Vardy have continued to perform well and are more than one-season wonders. Vardy got 20 goals last season just in the league... Quite a few of them find it difficult in the first campaign as they struggle to adapt to the fixtures congestion and the physical requirements of the league. Some of them live up to the hype that the transfer generated, and get off to an electric start with their new teams. However, in most cases, the second season doesn't prove to be as fruitful for them - the players stumble and lose their way and slowly move out of the limelight, never to be heard of again. In the PL, this phenomenon is more evident for some unfathomable reason. A half-season wonder with a good run of form with us, then he wouldn't sign a contract extension (which I thought was weird he was being offered one because we'd only signed him the summer before and other than that good run of form there was nothing to suggest he was extra special) because he felt it wasn't enough and we sold him to Chelsea.
