Madrid derby should be fun.

Atletico win/draw that and 2nd might as well be guaranteed.

Real win and it puts the cats amongst the pigeons again. What was the reverse fixture result?

and that's 2 for Messi and 2-0 to Barca.

Coutinho plays Messi in, holds off a defender and passes it in to give Barca a comfortable lead.

Everyone will talk about Messi's free-kick in relation to his three goals, but the third goal was something different from him because it was a goal any 9 in the history of the game would've been proud of.  Anticipation, control and improvisation in the finish all in the reduced space of something resembling 2 metres.

Semedo was superb once again today.

Yeah, he had a complete game today to be honest.  He's quality, but he does need to polish up on his decision making because otherwise he's a brilliant full-back.

yeah. he dominated that right side though. Sometimes got in better positions than Dembele did. Attacked and defended well in equal measure.

Doesn't matter who wins the Madrid derby today, the result makes me all kinds of happy as it''s a win-win for Barca. The El Clasico at the Camp Nou on May 6th will be more or less inconsequential (the first time that's been the case in a good long while). The blaugrana to go for the record of 39 matches unbeaten next week Saturday April 14th at home vs Valencia. Away at Celta Vigo on the 17th will be interesting. Would be happy to walk away with a draw.

Can't wait for the Champions League Semi-Final draw next Friday April the 13th! Who will we get??

Semedo was superb once again today.

He should be first choice at right back as he is superior to Sergi Roberto in this position and the latter has been responsible for a number of goals conceded this season.

Sergi's class offensively when playing at right back and has become an integral part of the team in this regard, but is often exposed at the back and at fault for goals. Semedo is much better defensively, while still brilliant going forward. Hopefully the mistake or not playing him enough isn't made here as this man can be Barcelona's first choice right back for years to come.

This doesn't mean Sergi should be dropped of course(as he's become a valuable asset to the team), but moved into midfield, which is his strongest position even if he is able to occupy other positions and the most versatile player in the squad. He's a vastly superior option to both Andre Gomes and Paulinho and the team as a whole would play much more fluidly this way. Semedo and Sergi both deserve to be in the starting 11.

I was also impressed by Dembele at times. It's just about being patient with him and letting him develop his allround game. He's not perfect yet(no 20 year old is), but he's got the ability there and is slowly getting better. I see something slowly forming between himself, Messi and Suarez also and if it wasn't for Suarez missing sitters yesterday, then a couple of goals would have come after moves involving all 3 players. The kid doesn't seem as reserved now.

Leganes looked much better in the second half and made for a game. The skill by Gabriel to leave Pique on his arse was brilliant. He absolutely raped him there.

Leganés have been generally been good all season and very hard to break down. What they have done brilliantly is play very well against all the top sides in the division and in the Copa del Rey they also eliminated Real Madrid at the daunting Santiago Bernabéu.  Credit has to be given to Garitano who also one must remember, got the diminutive Eibar up and running when they first achieved La Liga status.

What the likes of Girona, Eibar and Leganes have done in recent years has been brilliant and it's great to see that you still get small town clubs in the top flight who can give the big boys a run for their money.

A lot of people that don't avidly watch La Liga get lulled into a false sense of recognising how competitive La Liga actually is mate. The two giants (we could also add Atleti in there these days in their odd way) are so far ahead (ahead even on the continent) that those that don't watch the games feel it's a dead league in certain senses.  These sides, how small they are, how little they have to spend by comparison shows that real football work is done so well in Spain with a combination of signing wisely and promoting youth.  I would even go so far as to say that Spain's second division is very competitive and full of very good quality.

Betis 5th. What a season

It's amazing how they have managed it as well as they were in the bottom half not so long ago and I remember saying to @SirBalon how they should be doing better given the potential they had at the start of the season.

They have done well in the end and I wouldn't be surprised if they finished in those European spots.
