World Cup 2022 - 48 Teams

Recommended Posts

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) on Thursday asked FIFA to bring forward plans to expand the World Cup to 48 teams in time for the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

The competition is due to be extended from 32 teams to 48 in time for the 2026 finals, which will be awarded either to Morocco or a joint North American bid from the United States, Mexico and Canada.

However, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez handed over a letter to FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the organisation's congress in Buenos Aires, signed by the heads of the 10 South American federations, urging the early expansion.

I've lost all respect for Alejandro Dominguez - just an excuse to try and get Paraguay to qualify early.

No chance Qatar can hold 48 teams either. I said this on twitter but Dominguez is way too envious. He just copies everything Europe does, and that's why we don't win World Cups anymore. We have to stop looking up to the European and start believing again that we are the best. Be it true or not, with another mentality we aren't going to move forward.

No doubt they go through with it. Typical of these idiots hiding behind the "expansion increases the quality" when it just dilutes it.

Euro 2016 was the shittest tournament format we've ever had and that's the route they're going down.
