The Supercups (charity shield) are minor trophies but they are trophies. Plus the European Super Cup does have more meaning. I think you’re talking about things like the Emirates Cup and the like. The community shield in England is actually a friendly given the substitute rules are different from competitive matches and it's a pathetic that Arsenal treat it as a trophy. In Spain Ramos' dirty tactics are manipulated to translate into good hard defending while others like the examples of Costa and Suárez when doing the same thing are publicised as just dirty players. Depending on who you listen to Diego Costa gets just as much adulation for being confrontational and bending the rules because he's a "beast" or a "monster" that "everyone would love to have on their team" as Ramos does. Suarez gets the same sort of adulation to a lesser extent but to be fair you can see why with the reputation of going a bit further on the wrong side of the line with the other two with things like biting opponents.
