i think it's harsh to add that caveat to Uruguay when Brazil have faced equally boring opponents and Peru have faced teams like France and Denmark, who are markedly better than the likes of Egypt & Saudi Arabia.

Fair - but take that out, and they are the only country with a win. Still shows a bad starts for the SA

Neymar is a massive vagina. Yeah he gets his fair share of boots but he also falls over at the slightest touch.

He is. But you don't want to see the world's most skillful player constantly brought to a stop by any old thug player. That's not a level playing field.

Look at how Best, Maradona etc used to ride tackles and just get on with it though. As a modern fan, we’re just so used to players stopping because they feel a tug on their shirt and it’s an automatic foul or a light touch. I’d hardly say he’s been hacked down once today.

Tite should be trialed and convicted in Hague for crimes against football for starting Paulinho in a World Cup match!

What does he bring to the midfield? Nothing! Nada!

And Willian?! Terrible! Douglas Costa can play on the right.

This. People in here saying he's getting fouled loads but look at those actually fouls and it's about half and half.

oh look, a manager of a South American team making a positive change to try and win the game. Sampaoli could learn something here.

Douglas Costa on for Willian. Should have started to be honest.

hmm. The first few were definite fouls. The last few towards the end of the half he was going down but the Costa Ricans were winning challenges or not committing fouls and they were called as fair challenges.

Jesus hits the bar!

Somehow Coutinho doesn't score shortly after. Good defending from Costa Rica getting bodies in the way.
