Not sure that's my reaction. Would have been an exciting signing and a bit of a coup but for reasons stated above I'm not heartbroken if this is true.

More annoyed that someone will dig out one tweet by some overexcited idiot with an Everton badge next to his twitter profile and use it to go in their "hUHUhU Evaton fanzzz r sO delooded thought dey woz getting Malcolm" scrapbook.

To be fair if Everton are to compete with the top six clubs they should be targeting the same players as the likes of Roma.

Yeah but what ambitious player is gonna pick Everton over Roma? CL football v. trying to get a club to look ready to challenge for a top 6 spot.

I agree. If you´re targeting the same players Roma are, it´s a good sign, because Monchi is very smart.

Don't talk crazy. Everton made some bad transfers last summer and had Allardyce as manager for a few months so we're only allowed to compete for the same signings as Newcastle and West Ham for the next 20 years otherwise we're delooded.

Roma aren't exactly guaranteed CL Football though.

They are this season and have a better platform to build off than Everton do imo, with less clubs ahead of where they're aiming to be.

You never know what players want but word is he wants to go to Italy in this case.

We might have thrown a £120k contract at him last summer to make his mind up for him, but we'd be absolutely retarded to do that when we've already got Sandro, Klaassen, Williams among those reportedly earning six figures a week. I don't think we'll be making many signings of that nature until the wage budget is back under control.

You can look at the amount of dead wood in the squad and think that that was the main failing of Walsh and Koeman  but it has since become evident how many players are earning way beyond what they're worth and looking at his work at PSV, by all accounts, he will prefer to bring the wage structure under control before starting commit significant amounts of his spare budget in more signings, because whatever player you are, every signing is a risk. Poor decisions by his predecessors have done at least 2-3 years of damage to us getting value out of our wage budget.

I say this as someone from the Wirral… but you'd need to be paying me a hell of a lot more than I'd make in Rome if you want me to pick living in Merseyside over Rome. And I have absolutely no doubt that Everton, even with their wage budget issues, are in better financial shape than Roma, who we (and also Chelsea last year) have taken advantage of their precarious financial situation by being able to offer them amounts they couldn't feasibly say no to because of their financial issues... even though I'm sure they'd much rather have kept all of Salah, Rudiger, and Allison.

I think Brands will be good for you clearing out that overpaid deadwood in the squad. But it's not an easy task... it's taken us years to do it after 3 managers mismanaging the club in the long term (Roy, King Kenny - although he was good before he was made a permanent appointment, and Rodgers). And we've still got some of Rodgers' deadwood here in Bogdan and Markovic. So it's not that easy to get rid of overpaid players that aren't actually better than average. But ridding yourself of some excessive earners will obviously open things up a bit more.

But even if the wages weren't much higher than what Roma wants to offer, I don't blame him at all for picking Roma. Putting my personal biases against Everton aside, they've just had a decent CL campaign, qualified for the CL again, and if the goal for both clubs next season is to get European football... it's a much easier task for them as things currently stand. I don't think Everton are a bad side, but I don't think they're as good as the rest of our league's top 6. And if they do crack the top 4, the challenge then becomes continuing to maintain a CL spot with a smaller squad.

It's not impossible... but it's more difficult. Especially when Roma are a bit ahead in terms of what they can reasonably expect to achieve this season and have Monchi plotting to keep them developing despite the financial limitations they're currently placing. And then you take into account that Rome is a fantastic fucking cities and one of my favourite places in the world... and I can absolutely understand why Malcolm would want a move to Roma over Everton.

Surprised Roma announced Malcom before he signed a contract. They´ll also need to be more careful with any leaks to the press, because other teams watch closely what Monchi does.

Malcom will fight for a starting spot with Dembélé. Journalists who have inside sources at Barcelona, say that Barça doesn´t fully trust Ousmane, apparently he has some maturity issues. Is it true? @SirBalon @The Rebel CRS

To be fair Roma announced that they'd agreed a fee but they still need to agree personal terms and do the medical so they didn't jump the gun. I see what people are saying but in this day and age if it didn't come from their official channels it would have come from journalists and been equally embarrassing public knowledge anyway.

Yeah, it is thought that he has maturity issues and also doesn't seem to socialise much with the group, although maybe the latter is just a case of him being the new boy? It can take time to settle into a new club, especially when you don't understand the language. But the maturity issues could be problematic, although again, this could be about his age and he could soon grow out of it..

It's a shame if it doesn't work out for Dembele either way as you can clearly see that he has a lot of natural talent. He's a gifted lad.

The Malcom signing could be an interesting one to be honest and it's also an area where competition is needed. This signing makes more sense than the Willian one as he's much younger. Even if it didn't work out, then he would still have resale value.

Interestingly, Malcom is named that after Malcom X. I just read about that now.
