Elbowing To Be More Than A 3 Game Ban

An elbow to the face is just the same as a foot to the ankle. They both hurt and both limit a player's ability to perform at their best. Any form of blatant harm just to get the ball should be punished just as it would be in the streets.

The thing about this is you'd hope they actually look at the situation and judge the length of the ban on how severe an elbow it was rather than what they do when judging what's a "headbutt" or a "violent hand to the face". Some common sense would be nice.

But that tackle on Coleman would still result in 3 games.........

Put someone out for 18 months, 3 games. Elbow, 5 games. Logic, ZERO.

They can't prove intent so is every elbow 5 games?

To be honest it's practically impossible to ever prove something was intentional in football.  I've seen terrible incidents in the past where the one that done it swears it wasn't intentional and he looks sincere.  Football is frenetic and the passion involved sometimes makes it seem like there was something in it.

On the other hand, players can evolve and re-invent the way they do things which for me means that if they learn to do things another way, we eliminate this sort of thing.

Appalling tackles like those should be reviewed. I'd advocate 10 match bans for deliberate and dangerous tackles that put someone out of action for months at a time. Fuck intent, judge it on the damage to set an example

totally disagree. In every game there's always lots of contact with players feet on ankles.

Elbows to the face are much worse, especially if caught flush on the face and the impact/consequences on the face/skull can be much more severe.
