Andriy Yarmolenko Moves to West Ham From Dortmund

Recommended Posts

West Ham United have made a £17.5m bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Andriy Yarmolenko, according to Sky sources.

One source claims the deal for Yarmolenko - who joined the German side from Dynamo Kiev for £23m last summer - is subject to a medical and work permit.

Yarmolenko made 30 appearances for Dortmund last season, of which 21 were starts.

The 28-year-old - who has 76 caps for Ukraine - scored six goals to help Dortmund to a fourth-placed finish in last season's Bundesliga.

West Ham are also still in talks with Sporting Lisbon over the £20m signing of midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

However, it is understood that the Portuguese side want £25m for the 23-year-old, and that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are also interested.

Sky Sports are reporting that he's having a medical.

Fair play to West Ham on this one. I get he hasn't progressed at Dortmund as others expected, but he's still a very talented player who should be an asset.

Anything other than a top half finish should be deemed a failure.

Think West Ham will have a good seeson to be honest, Pellegrini is a class above the likes of Slaven Bilic and David Moyes. They have made some good additions so far so he has to deliver.

In fairness to Bilic he lost Payet and was given Snodgrass as a replacement as well as having to manage through the stadium move.

The signings they’ve made create bigger expectations and more pressure on Pellegrini and the team.

They’ve brought in five players you’d expect to be in or around the first team this summer and are still linked with a few more players so there’s now an added pressure that they need to gel almost immediately because if not, you can foresee their fans not being happy.

Within their first eight games of the Premier League season they face Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur so, even with these new signings, you wouldn’t fancy them to get many points from those games and a bad start to the season tends to see the rot set in and fans turn and I don’t think West Ham fans need much to turn them, they’re still a fractured support base despite the owners actually spending money this summer and a bad start will just see them become more disillusioned.

That said, they are making signings, on paper at least, that could have the ability to trouble some bigger clubs and if they get out of those first eight games relatively unscathed, they then have games against the likes of Burnley, Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace and Watford prior to Christmas that they’d earmark as games they think they should be getting points from.
