Kepa - Signs for Chelsea FC

How is it actually done mate?  He's handed a cheque by Chelsea addressed to the RFEF? Or does he need to have a cheque of his own from his own account?

What's to stop him just pocketing the 80m decoding not to buy out his contract and staying at Atletico?

Everyone knows what's going on so literally it's everyone following the rules. When the buying club wants to acquire a player via the buy-out clause, they make the cheque out in the name of the player and then that player signs that cheque off in the name of who he wants to give it to which in this case it would be to Athletic (not Atlético like you suggested although that would've been a wonderful surprise for them xD)... Jokes aside, there's nothing legally stopping the player from pocketing the cheque although I'm sure that those who made it out in the first place (Chelsea in this case) would stop the cheque once they've seen that the player isn't well in the head.

Thibaut was on his last year of the contract, he would walk free next summer.

In which case, not bad all things considered!

Well yeah, basically we were forced to sell. Broke negotiations with him earlier last year so this was expected. He should have been a pro and return to training and leave on good terms. However it is much easier to stay in Belgium and force your move out like a little rat.

So it's lucky with his first name because Kepa isn't a difficult one. But then again neither is César.

But Azpilicueta was ended up being called Dave by the Chelsea faithful and now we have another traditional Basque surname in Arrizabalaga...  Seeing as the tradition in England is to call a footballer by his surname not like in Spain where many players like their first name on their shirts...  What's Kepa gonna be? xD
