Where is the racism in that? A black player is probably big and quick, hows is that offensive?

Not saying I agree with that. I don't know where the 'racism' in it is. Just descriptive unless I'm totally missing something.

No doubt a snowflake like @Cannabis is offended though.

Haha, that would actually make a great comedy sketch. It also reflects the state of English footy, everyone knows that grass-root coaches eat up larger and pacier players over their diminutive counterparts.

It became so ingrained in my head for years that black=fast, that a while back I was surprised with myself that I was surprised at seeing a white player run fast! xD What the fuck!? Has it really gotten to the point that I expected pacey wingers to be black? Leroy Sane, Leon Bailly, Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Martial, Thierry Herny, Sylvain Wiltord, Gervinho, Jefferson Farfan, Ousmane Demebele, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kingsley Coman, Sadio Mane, Theo Walcott, Antonio Valencia, Nani, so on and so forth.

The 4 fastest players on our team:- Sterling, Walker, Sane & Mendy  ..might be something in this BBQ formula :D

What a dollop. A term that backs up the stereotype that black people should be looked at for physical prowess rather than intelligence. There maybe a setting where it's lighthearted and banter between friends but should be blatant to anyone that it wouldn't be acceptable in a professional setting.

Perhaps because racialist coaches like Dean Ramsdale have only brought through black players who conform to their genetic stereotype

That's funny.

Is calling a large, dark skinned person who is fast BBQ racist? As grand arbiter of racism I say no. A spade is a spade. So long as he isn't using a racist slur it's fine.

Next thing porn hub will have to retitle their videos.

Maybe not the best choice of words here.

No mention of intelligence or that black people are looked at only for physcial prowess. You filled in those dots yourself, mate. Just because it can be infered doesn't it it is implied.

Is there ever a mention of intelligence when discussing black athletes? The term is stereotyping black people into two categories, big and quick. It plays on the same stereotype that has been around for years.

I know you like to to play the protagonist but you're smart enough not to be that naive.

Yes, the Makalele role. Thuram is named 'the philospher'

He may not have used a racial slur or said anything overtly racist, but there's an implication there. Black skin isn't a trait that affects one's ability to play football in any way, so why mention it unless you're using it as shorthand, consciously or unconsciously, for something else?

And black players at youth level are apparently named "BBQ". I wasn't suggesting that black players have never been praised for being smart, but largely they are stereotyped as physical specimens first and people second, it is a stereotype that is pushed around at all levels of sport much more than praise received for intelligence or other personality traits.

In fact the words "big and black" lead onto a lot of stereotypes that black people in general, and not just athletes, aren't worth much more than their physicality or skin colour, again you're being naive if you don't believe this to be true.

But back to the initial point, it may and could be used as a bit of banter between friends, but the term "BBQ" is a stereotype used to diminish black players other personal qualities to reduce their worth only to their perceived physical abilities. Doing this, especially in a professional setting is done so to compensate for that persons either lack of physical ability and/or clear racism by trying to better them psychologically, which takes the "black people are fast and strong, white people are intelligent" stereotype full circle.
