In an act of personal humility, a sentiment of awe and a show of more than just understanding football, the Barcelona defensive midfielder decided to offer some words of unedited praise to the head coach of Real Betis, Quique Setién. Sergio Busquets took it upon himself to rise above the sentiments of defeat to send a hand written note on the back of the shirt he had used during the La Liga clash to the opponent’s coach with these words signed and delivered; ”To Quique, with fondness and admiration for the way in which you see football, a hug, Sergio Busquets.” The generous detail from Busquets made such an affect on Setién that the club (Real Betis) decided to post it on their official Twitter account; It’s no secret that Quique Setién has had many plaudits in reference to the football his teams reproduce over the years, but at the same time he does get questioned on his necessity to add more nuances to the overall philosophy he has adapted in his career as a head coach. His style is a very individual one with obvious characteristics obtained from Barcelona’s particular style. Be it what it may, a total show of class from Busi. He could essily be of he makes a statement at Betis which is well within his powers. Obviously various things have to align themselves for this to happen like not getting too many injuries. It’s rumoured that Real Madrid have also been seriously considering him. What I do know though is that if both clubs go in for him he’ll go to Barcelona as he would have a more autonomous job. SirBalon 2,692 Posted August 18, 2019 Author Share Posted August 18, 2019 It's Called 'Busquets-Dependence' Unless it's the club you support, the club you follow day-in and day-out for whatever reason, a person's opinion tends to lie either in the realms of a biased and destabilising attempt or just on a simplistic overview of how results are decided in this sport which are goals. It's fair to say that the modern football fan prizes the goalscorer more than the real picture on a football pitch more than ever these days with the globalisation of football and the subsequent opinion based credence offered in a time where social media shares so much space in and amongst even sports journalism. But that's where the the real football aficionado, the fan, the balanced analytical eye saves ultimately foolish sensationalism. In this particular case of FC Barcelona after their first game and defeat of the season away to Athletic Club Bilbao at San Mamés kicked up rather a substantial amount of dust. Even to the extent of dismissing the quality and potenial this squad has. Signings have been made in key areas that have to fit into the possibly the most particular system of play in all of football and players are yet to arrive and depart. It's a moment of analytical speculation without the possible knowledge of the future in any way, shape or form. Straight away the name "Messi" was thrown into the ring a second after Aritz Aduriz' spectacular late winner hit the back of the net and gave the locals a memorable victory against the current and defending Champions of Spain. "Messi-Dependence", "Barça are nothing without Messi", "What of Barcelona when Messi retires" etc... I mean, hard to refute any of that when we're talking about the best footballer on the planet not being able to play, probably the greatest player in history out injured... I mean... Clubs sign great players to offer great winning moments don't they? That's part of why the transfer market has a reason for existence! Isn't it? I don't think Barcelona or any club missing their best player should apologise for such an event arising and the resulting difficulty to resolve certain issues like in this case the detail at the front end of the football pitch and either the creation or execution od goal-scoring. I digress... But for the real analytical eye and those that follow the club and don't have either, underlying reasons for sweeping statements, a poor sense of football awareness or just simply; "I wanna throw my hat into the ring with a comment"... Those that understand how the mechanics at Barça have worked since forever will know that when certain issues arrive on the pitch, one should straight away look quickly to what's happened or happening in midfield. Barcelona without a great midfield don't tend to achieve as they have never been prone to using the "epic" scenario so as to resolve sensitive moments... The "epic" has been achieved, but rarely as Barcelona rely heavily on its own nature taking control so as to dominate and win. Just looking into recent history, the absence of Sergio Busquets will show us that in the last four games has resulted in defeat. That's not something that can just be disgarded as a meaningless piece of information considering Ernesto Valverde has lost all of 7 games in La Liga since he became head coach. Sergio Busquets is a key piece in the remaining puzzle of Barça's midfield after the Iniesta and Xavi hung up their boots at the club. He is fundamental to how the team functions! He is the cog that can't go missing and where Barcelona's real dependence lies. De Jong's natural position isn't exactly Busquet's but he can play there and he can do it to excellence without a shadow of a doubt. De Jong will learn what remains from Busquets, but De Jong has also been signed to offer other things that have gone missing since Xavi and Iniesta retired from the club because De Jong is that good. But the very first game of the season required Busquets to be on the pitch as it wasn't just any game, it was away at one of Spain's most difficult grounds to get a positive result, ask Real Madrid fans, they know! There are a multitude of statistics that I won't go into now but show how vital Busquets is for the mechanics of the team and positive results. Just to say that in the last 40 games Sergio Busquets has played in La Liga, the team have suffered only 2 defeats in that time. Both of those defeats with Busquets playing a La Liga encounter for Barcelona curiously came in the first game Busy had returned from injury. Busquets is one of the very best in this limited role, and it's when teams put flair players like Pogba in this position that trouble occurs. Real Madrids troubles have come with limited options to anchor the midfield. Nigel De Jong won city titles. Matuidi won PSG titles Motta won inter titles Van Bommel won AC Milan titles Luis Gustavo won Bayern titles. Kehl won Dortmund titles. Some of those players aren't world beaters.
