What's Going Wrong at Bayern Munich?

Older, ageing players not being replaced wisely. How long do they keep on relying on the likes of Robben, Ribery etc? Even players like Martinez, Lewandowski, Boateng, Neuer are getting on a bit - I think all of them are 30+?

Regardless, it's good for the league if they're a bit weaker. Break up the monopoly of Bayern Munich winning it with ease. It's getting a bit boring up to now. Just hope the other clubs can seize this opportunity while their opponent is weak...

Yes, an aging squad that hasn't been rejuvenated properly, injuries, new coach that doesn't necessarily command the same respect as his predecessors and likely has problems with keeping egos in check.

That said, Bayern often have a somewhat weak start of the season so it's not necessarily going to last long. I hope it does though, and hopefully other clubs can capitalise on that.

Bayern have been in a steady decline for quite a few years now. It was disguised a bit by the fact that the league was so weak last year. The BVB side that came second in the 15/16 season could I have taken the title if it had time traveled. Also it helps that the other teams smell blood, and understand that playing Bayern is a chance for a famous win, not just a visit to the dentist.

The next few rounds might be vital. Especially the game at Dortmund in November. Before that they have to travel to Mainz and Wolfsburg, which can be though places to go if you are not ready for a fight.

Two factors (important ones) are the basis of the decomposition of Bayern's competitiveness...

  1. Undervaluing Pep Guardiola and his ongoing work at the time of his tenure at Bayern.
  2. Overvaluing ageing football icons and in some cases players that had been overrated anyhow.

Honestly the squad just isnt good enough. They've done a great job at bringing in some players, especially in the middle of the park. Yet they continue to expect Robbery to play until their 40 and start important matches. Coman was a great get but the poor guy can never stay healthy. Now fast forward to this season you have 3 critical injuries to start the season after an off season of selling off a handful of your quality squad players. Injuries are not why the team has played poorly but the squad construction right out of the gate was poor.

The attitude in the locker room seems to be off, this summer and start to the season was full of FC hollywood stories of old and the on field product doesnt look cohesive at all. Apparently only Guardiola or Don Jupp can keep these players in line. Because of that their should have been a bigger squad shakeup this summer, the whole Boateng debacle should have been delt with differently and Robbery should have not been extended again.

I think Niko Kovac doesn't necessarily command the same respect as his predecessors and likely has problems with keeping egos in check.

Next to that they had some injuries and an aging squad that hasn't been rejuvenated properly.

Guardiola is the single biggest factor in their decline.

Guardiola cemented Bayern's position as perennial league winner, and subsequent managers have struggled to keep up those standards. Not to mention he gave Bayern their Lahm replacement for less than 15 million Euros.

Any sensible Bayern fan would kill to have Guardiola back.

Bayern were comortably the best team in the world. Finishing 2nd in all competitions and 1st in all competitions the 2 seasons before baldy came in. guardiola came in, made the football clearly and measurably worse, got worse results, bar in the league, where they had no competition, leaned heavily on old cunts in attacking positions made the worlds best  full back a mediocre midfielder for no reason, ruined muller then ran off without ever even looking like they were going to win the CL, branding himself a success.

Of course, Balon and inverted would lick the shit off peps cock after he ripped it out of their mums arse. So of course he is still a shining golden god

Pep's not a god, but he did good work with Bayern. Bringing in players like Thiago, Coman, Kimmich, etc. put Bayern on the right track to move on from the ageing players from Jupp's team. Not to mention Thomas Muller had one of his best ever seasons under Pep. The issue was that the club brought in a completely different manager because they thought Carlo could magically win the CL, and he was then unlucky too.

Not getting another CL win was disappointing but when you look at those 6 matches that knocked them out of the CL, they were slightly unlucky. Seems stupid to me to judge three years on a handful of games. Why not judge Jupp on his bottle jobs against Dortmund, Chelsea and Frankfurt, if that's the attitude?

Guardiola was clearly and explecitely signed to win the CL, he didn´t deliver it, so he has to be labeled as a failure at Bayern, although I don´t share Devil-Dicks opinion that his tenure was the biggest component of their issues this season.

Haven't Bayern been perennial league winners for a very long time, with only the odd random title challenger to sometimes pip them to it? I feel like they've always been by far the best German side for the entirety of my life.

Bayern and the National Team - a reluctance to accept that great or even good players do actually get old sometime and lack of chances to give the kids time to settle in to do what they really can do.  Bayern, Germany and 04 - all the same but with 04 without a brain to lead them out of the crisis Bayern will resolve it and Germany might need Tedesco to really ruin things for them!
