FIFA To Consider Abolishing Rebounds From Penalties

It's in Dutch so I would not have a clue what it reads but I'm not sure if that would be a good idea or not?

Fifa is considering abolishing rebounds from penalties. If rules were changed, a free-kick to the defending side would be awarded if a team misses from the spot.

Updated Gisteren, 10:10 Gisteren, 09:51 in VOETBAL

It would definitely add to the value of a penalty save. However, rebounds are a part of the game and there is really no reason to change the current format.

So are Fifa changing the rules that missing a penalty is now a punishable offence? Because that’s the only reason a free kick to the opposition can be given surely?

Either allow rebounds in shootouts or can the rebounds on penalties in the main contest. Just be consistent one way or the other.

Maybe whenever a goalkeeper saves a free kick or a header from a corner they should ban rebounds from that too.

On a par with John McEnroe suggesting they allow let serves to count in tennis and Bernie Ecclestone's trackside sprinklers in F1.

Mongs.

It is consistent, there is no open play in a penalty shootout, there is in normal time, hence rebounds.

Dumb as fuck suggestion.

They should perhaps change the existing rule that the penalty-taker can't get a rebound off their own penalty if they hit the woodwork and it comes back out. What kind of dumb shit is that? Don't see the logic in that at all.

Remember the throwback times of MLS football penalty kicks in the 90's, that didn't last, imagine having these nowadays lol.

I can't decide whats worse there, the fact that they get to run with the ball for a bit or the fact that even though the attacker is seriously favored against the goalkeeper they still can't score. Shit way to take a penalty and I am glad its dead. Let's hope this new 'suggestion' finds its way to the place it belongs as well, the dustbin.
