EFL ask FIFA for Loan Deal Reform

Recommended Posts

Quote

The EFL has written to FIFA to ask if the rules can be changed to allow its clubs to sign players on loan outside of the transfer windows.

The rules were changed in June 2017, meaning EFL clubs currently can only sign players from other clubs - either on loan or permanently - in the summer of January transfer windows.

However, the EFL wants to go back to the previous system which allowed clubs to make emergency loan signings of up to 93 days outside of designated windows.

I personally don't see why not. There was no need to take it away, it wasn't hurting anyone concerned.

I mean, injuries/suspensions can happen, not to mention there are players not being selected in PL squads that could get playing time and in turn, benefit both parties.

Take the likes of Kieron Dowell right now. Had a great season for Forest last year, is back at Everton and he won't be getting any game time soon now. Instead of sitting and rotting in the reserves, he could be out playing competitive football and gaining valuable experience.

And also take Callum Hudson-Odoi, Had a great pre season for Chelsea, and has since never featured for them in the league. Where as he could have gone out somewhere and made an impression somewhere else.
