Sky sources understand the problem was a meniscus injury, rather than a more serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, but it is understood Mendy will be unavailable to play for City again in 2018. The Frenchman, who joined City from Monaco in a £49m deal last year, missed 43 games for the club after suffering an ACL injury in his right knee, just two months after his switch to Manchester. Last week Mendy underwent surgery in Barcelona for a problem with the meniscus in his left knee. The former Monaco left-back missed much of last season after suffering cruciate ligament damage to his right knee. He has made 12 appearances this season and played the full 90 minutes in City's final outing before the international break, the 3-1 derby victory over Manchester United.
