Unexpectedly, Alaves vs Sevilla is game of the weekend. Alaves surprisingly keeping up pace with the also surprising table-toppers and front-runners.

Fancy Alaves to win it as well - unbeaten at home and think they'll give Sevilla a good run for their money.

Even Girona, who are doing well in 6th so far, could give Atletico a good test too.

Any Real v Valencia clash always proves to be really entertaining too and I would expect more so considering how irregular both their seasons have been so far this year.

FC BARCELONA 2-0 VILLARREAL CF (FT)

DEPORTIVO ALAVÉS 1-1 SEVILLA FC (FT)

So Barça returned to first spot with that win against The Yellow Submarine and Sevilla drawing at Alavés who are proving one of the hardest nuts to crack in La Liga for everyone and it's thanks to their coach Abelardo. "El Pitu" (Abelardo) convinced the president of the love of his life Sporting Gijón to let him go as that way he wouldn't feel he would have to start complaining about how the club was run and from there he moved 320kms to the right along the northern flank of Spain to land in the city of Vitória to coach Alavés where he's been doing a miraculous job to be honest.  In truth Alavés' resurgence started a few years back when they got to the Copa del Rey Final which they lost against Barcelona, but in the league they've been generally all over the place flirting with relegation... Until now!

As for Barça...  Well after two and a half weeks of Ousmane Dembélé getting verbal knocks from every corner of the football world for his attitude and character (even in his home country, France) with even retired footballers making statements...  He has once again returned to what everyone knows he is capable of offering.  This happened at the start of the season too because he started this year's campaign on electric form after criticism during the summer from some quarters and Barcelona listening to offers from various of Europe's big clubs.

Dembélé was simply sensational against Villarreal yesterday and fustian ably so has captured all of this morning's Spanish sports front pages for all the right reasons, the reasons for which he was signed for a considerably large sum of money.  It's fair to say that his MOTM award for yesterday is merited and you won't find a better individual performance anywhere in Europe the weekend just finished.

Another of yesterday's headliners for Barcelona was the young La Masia product everyone has been begging Ernesto Valverde to play for ages, Carles Aleña.  Not only did he play the game everyone knows he can deliver in the centre of the park, but he even popped up with a goal although that's not his forté.

My only criticism with Dembele is that his end product isn't always there, after doing all the hard work of beating a few players and making them look like sunday league players. Then again, when he does get it right, it's affective, as we saw in the cross for Pique's goal. Hopefully the kid sorts his attitude out now and keeps his head focused on football as he could really make a difference in the club winning more trophies this term.

Another positive to take from yesterday is the clean sheet. The defence has been poor this season and it's certainly an area that needs improving the most.

Great to see young Carles grab a goal. Scoring isn't really his forte, although judging by his finish yesterday you would think it was one of his strengths. Brilliantly taken goal and nice pass by Messi to set it up as well.

It's a shame Real didn't lose yesterday. I had a feeling they would have as Valencia seem to be up for those types of games more than any other.
