Sheffield Wednesday to be put up for sale – owner

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has told fans he is putting the Championship club up for sale.

Speaking at a fans’ forum on Wednesday night, Chansiri said he believed there was plenty of interest in the club despite off-field problems which saw Owls placed under a transfer embargo for much of the summer.

“I will put this club on the market and I believe many people will want to buy,” Chansiri said.

The Thai businessman bought the club in early 2015 from Milan Mandaric, and the early signs were promising as they finished in the Championship play-off places in his first two full seasons.

But they fell short of promotion to the Premier League and could only manage 15th place last season.

They sit 18th in the current table with 24 points from 22 games, and fans have begun to turn against coach Jos Luhukay.

The transfer embargo, which lasted from April to August, followed breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The Football League’s FFP rules do not permit clubs to post losses of more than £39million over three years. The latest figures show Wednesday lost over £20million in 2016-17.

Chansiri told fans the club still needed to “solve” FFP and he could not make any promises ahead of the January transfer window but insisted he would remain to continue to do his best for the club until a new owner comes in.

“We have problems with FFP, so it is hard but we will try our best,” he said. “With January in mind, I cannot answer what we can do right now. The important thing for me is to solve FFP…

“One day you will have a new owner but while I am your chairman I will do my very best and never do anything to damage this wonderful club.”

Their supporters club held a forum to ask Chansiri questions last night (or the night before), I believe and many were heckling him and calling for the manager to get sacked.

They never recovered from losing the play-off final in 2016 and then the implications that had on their finances. Funny thing is, he's leaving them with that god awful new club badge that looks like a transexual harry potter house.

Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri 'unaware of court case'

Sheffield Wednesday FC has claimed that one of its players did not attend a court hearing as he was unaware of the legal proceedings.

An arrest warrant was issued for Fernando Forestieri after he failed to appear at Mansfield Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The South Yorkshire club said the "arrest warrant for his failure to attend court will not now be pursued".

The 28-year-old striker was facing charges relating to a post-match brawl.

He has been charged with using threatening words and behavior and racially aggravated harassment on 24 July, the court said.

The offenses are alleged to have taken place at the end of a pre-season friendly between Wednesday and Mansfield.

In a statement, Sheffield Wednesday said: "It has come to the club's attention that court proceedings were conducted yesterday involving Fernando Forestieri.

"We can confirm that neither the club, Forestieri nor his legal team was aware of this court date and thus the arrest warrant for his failure to attend court will not now be pursued and a new court date is to be arranged."

The former Italy Under-21 international has not played for the club since 1 December and was not included in the squad to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday agree deal with Steve Bruce to be new Owls manager

STEVE BRUCE is set to be named Sheffield Wednesday’s new manager on Wednesday morning The 58-year-old former Aston Villa boss had been in talks with the Owls since Jos Luhukay was axed before Christmas.

But a pre-planned family holiday over the festive period delayed his arrival at S6, although Bruce’s coaching staff Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence have been attending games. The Yorkshire Post understands a deal was finally agreed yesterday – after the Owls drew 1-1 with another of Bruce’s former clubs, Birmingham City – and confirmation of the appointment will be made shortly. Bruce will inherit a squad in good spirits after caretaker boss Lee Bullen helped them to a four-match unbeaten run since Luhukay’s exit. Next up for the Owls is an FA Cup tie with Luton Town on Saturday, while Bruce’s first league game will be a trip to Hull City –the club he was in charge of when they beat the Owls in the Championship play-off final three seasons ago'
