shut up 184 Posted December 21, 2018 Quote The club have added some unusual trophies to their online cabinet, including wins at the Sun International Challenge Trophy in Swaziland, the Anglo-Italian League Cup-Winners Cup and my personal favourite, the Costa Del Sol tournament. https://www.sportbible.com/football/news-reactions-fails-the-club-honourstrophy-list-on-tottenhams-website-is-going-viral-20181221?c=1545383454966&fbclid=IwAR0KFiOc_h6EVQOWGU0UWrSIEx2c443vy6y-a9KoT1ErDOGXmm6mPbFhy0U 1 The Costa Del Sol Tournament and the Sun Challenge Trophy

Dr. Gonzo 4,596 Posted December 21, 2018 I can understand the really old ones. Well, I think I can - I don't really know how football was structured then tbh... but I'm assuming those aren't pre-season tournaments because I'm pretty sure pre-season tournaments are relatively new and came with the commercialisation of football. But shit like listing pre-season tournaments is pretty fucking ridiculous. Nobody gives a fuck about the 2009 Barclays Asia winners.

6666 858 Posted December 22, 2018 Tottenham claiming anything as a trophy is a regular meme on social media (one which was becoming slightly played out) so it's baffling how they weren't aware of how this would make them look. They've given that meme a shot in the arm now.
SirBalon 2,607 Posted December 22, 2018 Costa del Sol Tournament! WOW! I think I played in that one too years back... Got sent off for coming on with a San Miguel in my hand. Don't know if it was the same year Spurs won it though.
Smiley Culture 1,351 Posted December 22, 2018 The Anglo-Italian Cup or the Southern District Charity Cup may not seem an achievement in 2018 and may be part of some highly “funny” (debatable) meme but they’re parts of Tottenham’s history and I think it’s quite good that they’re acknowledging their past, even if the tournaments won seem a bit of a joke. They’re also listed as “Other Honours” rather than being amongst their major honours, so the Ipswich Hospitals Charity Cup isn’t sandwiched between the FA Cup and the League Cup. Gunnersauraus 678 Posted December 23, 2018 Some tournements were bigger in the past. At this rate though england can claim the tournoi and unbro cup as tournament victories so we don't all feel so bad

People go on about how they have a squad full of great players but then want to pretend no signings in the summer means this squad has been desperately put together. I get they have done well and it's "success" relative to Tottenham but it's not something you can hold up and brag about.

Which we weren't and still aren't. What we were doing was "success" relative to our situation just like this is "success" relative to who Tottenham are (which I already stated). If I was bragging about how "Liverpool can't handle our success" while we were scraping 4th and they were finishing below Everton then your post would have made sense but I didn't so it doesn't. I can't speak about you specifically, but plenty of Arsenal fans wanted Wenger out despite winning FA Cup's just because Arsenal weren't where Spurs are right now. It seems to me that a core element of the support valued challenging for the title over winning the FA Cup. Now Spurs are doing that you can't all rush to get the FA Cup out of the closet you kept it in without looking hurt

Arsenal and Chelsea do that, spurs don't Sure but my original point was that Wenger was driven out precisely because you aren't what Spurs are right now. Trophies obviously don't mean all that in the present to many at Arsenal. That's why I find it a bit rich that you're trying to bring Spurs down about it. Some of your fans have burnt that right for you. Also when you are 2nd best in the present you should keep quiet otherwise it's a sign that you cant take it. Your original point is right to a certain extent (although I've always stayed consistent ) but until you actually win something, it's been a waste of time and we came second when Leicester won it and that didn't mean much then either. Just like Tottenham coming second when Chelsea won it didn't mean much. Don't know why it's suddenly amazing and something people "can't handle". As I said this is success relative to what Tottenham are and I have no problem saying Tottenham are doing well but I doubt even Tottenham fans will remember this "golden period" fondly if they don't win anything whereas we can still look back on those FA Cup wins as being something. Trophy wins live long in the memory. Newcastle might experience this one day.
