Still can't believe Arsenal are willing to 1) let him go and 2) do so without a fee.

Mesut Özil (nobody wants to make the same mistake twice. Once can be called an error, twice can be construed as being shit at your job)

The problem here is that Aaron Ramsey should feel agrieved he is being punished for a very stupid error of judgement.  Ramsey isn’t Özil.

It is indeed a ridiculous situation.

He's being used sparingly now because of his contract ending in which case you'd expect him to be sold in January. Not using him much but still keeping him until the end of his contract doesn't make sense.

Still hoping there's a chance that he ends up signing a new contract.

Don't think anyone gets paid what they're worth on a free

But this is far from the first free transfer signing Juventus have made, that's why they've had an advantage of signing free transfers as they've saved money.

If they then just overpay Ramsay after a free transfer, it would take away all the benefits.

Paying €10m per year for 4 years after a free transfer would be significantly less than pay €5m per year for 4 years after paying a €50m transfer fee.

Players on free transfers have always gotten more money as it makes sense for both the club and the player especially nowadays where transfer fees are so high.

Paying a guy the second highest wage, that probably wouldn't be a guaranteed starter, isn't a great use of money however you look at it.

The other players Juventus have brought in on free transfers haven't had astronomically higher wages than they'd normally get, it just seems strange they'd choose to do it now for a play no better than what they have.

When someone is signed on a free, their financial reward tends to come in the shape of a signing fee that they pocket in a lump sum.

The problem with going down the extraordinarily high wage route is that it causes problems for you in the future when present players are due for contract negotiations on their renewals.

Matuidi is 31 and not as good as he once was. Khedira is 31 and hasn't been good for a while. Emre Can is Emre Can... sometimes good, sometimes hopeless. Bentancur is a decent young player but not at the level where he should be a guaranteed starter. Pjanic is the only one I'd look at in the central midfield as being top quality.

That's all of their central midfield options. They lack depth and what they do have there, isn't great. Their defence and attack are extremely good but their midfield is lacking. They definitely need a top central midfielder and they know they do.

Is Aaron Ramsey a 'top central midfielder'? Baring in mind their goal is to win the Champions League. I just don't see Ramsey as anywhere near the standard required to push them over the top.

The other player Juventus are linked with is Pogba... who's a worse player and would be a lot more expensive. I also pointed out what they have there now. This deal is an obvious one for them.

There's no point bringing in a player, on a massive wage, that they still need to improve upon.

They obviously rate Ramsey highly if the rumours are to be believed so they obviously see him as a top player.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will hold talks with five of Europe's leading clubs in January ahead of leaving the Gunners when his contract expires next summer.

The 28-year-old is able to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from 1 January, prior to exiting the Emirates Stadium as a free agent when his current deal finishes on 30 June.

Ramsey will consider moves to Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid.

Contrary to some reports, he has not yet made a decision.

The Wales international was in discussions with Arsenal over a new four-year contract, but the offer was withdrawn in September, mainly for football and financial reasons.

Ramsey might have been open to departing in January, however Arsenal feel his relative value to the squad for the rest of the season is greater than what they could recoup through a transfer fee and salary savings.

Potential suitors are now unwilling to pay the sort of money that would tempt the Gunners to part with their longest-serving player mid-campaign, thought to be around £40m.

Having joined from his hometown club Cardiff City for £4.8m in 2008, Ramsey has scored 60 goals in 352 appearances and won the FA Cup in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

Central midfielders that attack from the centre doesn't seem to be Emery's thing. Wants the central midfield just to control things and the attack to come from out wide. It's annoying because it makes things difficult for our two most influential players in Ramsey & Özil. Strange thing is them deciding not to sell Ramsey even though his contract is ending and even though Emery doesn't want to use him that much. Makes no sense. Some of Europe's biggest clubs after him yet we've decided he's not good enough for us. Makes no sense.

Absolutely no surprises the level of club after him he is 100 percent elite. I reckon he'll end up at Juve he would do very well there.

This mess has come from years of mismanagement from all corners. Not just Wenger but Kroenke and especially the biggest fraud going Gazidis, Milan are absolute fools for hiring him. Any way I hope the club are smart but I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up blowing the saved budget on someone like Banega...

This situation isn't down to anyone other than the people currently in charge. Not talking about Emery but the team in charge of the contracts. The deal was on the table and negotiations were proceeding well but as soon as Gazidis left, the contract was taken off the table. Hate him or not, Gazidis seemed to have gotten the Ramsey contract close to down.

A lot of his decisions has led to this situation though, if he hadn't of blown so much budget on a load of shit the club wouldn't be in a position where they are financially afraid to offer him a deal.

Aaron Ramsey: Arsenal midfielder in talks with Bayern, Inter, Juventus, PSG & Real Madrid

By David Ornstein

BBC Sport

31 December 2018 | European Football

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will hold talks with five of Europe's leading clubs in January before leaving the Gunners when his contract expires next summer.

The 28-year-old is able to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from 1 January, prior to exiting the Emirates Stadium as a free agent when his current deal finishes on 30 June.

Ramsey will consider moves to Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris St-Germain, and Real Madrid.

Contrary to some reports, he has not yet made a decision.

The Wales international was in discussions with Arsenal over a new four-year contract, but the offer was withdrawn in September, mainly for football and financial reasons.

Ramsey might have been open to departing in January, however Arsenal feels his relative value to the squad for the rest of the season is greater than what they could recoup through a transfer fee and salary savings.

With no major departures expected in January and heavy investment in new signings and contracts over the past year, Arsenal does not have significant funds to spend in the upcoming transfer window.

Any permanent acquisitions, loan fees, and salaries will be drawn from a modest budget and therefore loan deals are more probable, with out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, 24, among those under consideration. That budget is likely to increase substantially in the summer.

There have been conversations about recalling defender Calum Chambers and winger Reiss Nelson from loan spells at Fulham and Hoffenheim respectively, but with Chambers, the chances are remote because breaking his season-long deal would incur a fee, while there is a reluctance to disrupt Nelson's progress in Germany.

There is no indication Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke will inject any of his personal wealth, which tallies with the club's managing director Vinai Venkatesham reaffirming their commitment to a "self-sustaining business model" during an interview with the BBC in October.

Kroenke providing external resources for player recruitment could also raise potential issues with Arsenal's ability to comply with football's Financial Fair Play rules and Premier League regulations limiting how much a wage bill can increase year on year.

Furthermore, the club is said to be realistic about their current capabilities relative to those of rival teams. This partly explains their commitment to young players and confidence in the talent coming through.

Although Saturday's 5-1 defeat at Liverpool saw head coach Unai Emery and the club hierarchy criticized in some quarters, there is an internal belief that they are moving in the right direction after a tumultuous period which saw Arsene Wenger leave as manager after 22 years in charge and numerous staff and structural changes behind the scenes.

There could be more to come, with the appointment of a technical director possible, while Emery will be given time to implement his vision and mould a squad over the course of several transfer windows, in a similar way to how Liverpool have developed since Jurgen Klopp arrived in October 2015.
