The 29-year-old is out of contract this summer and it is being reported Spurs are keen to bring him to London

Tottenham are interested in signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has started two league games this term due to the form of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The Mirror report Spurs are preparing to offer Sturridge a two-year deal to stay in the Premier League, with the player also linked with a move to MLS club New York City.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring in cover and competition for Harry Kane, whose current understudy Fernando Llorente, is also out of contract at the end of the season.

Pochettino’s opposite number Jurgen Klopp is believed to be reluctant to give Sturridge a new contract due to injury problems that have blighted his career.

Despite his lack of playing time at Anfield, Sturridge would be called upon if Firmino, Mane or Salah were injured.

And with Liverpool battling for Premier League and Champions League glory, Klopp might call on Sturridge if he chooses to rest his first-choice forwards.

He has proven to be a useful back-up this season, evident when he scored against PSG in the 3-2 win when Firmino was only fit enough for the bench, and when he rescued a point against Chelsea in his four-minute Premier League cameo in September.

  • The title was changed to Daniel Sturridge - Spurs Keen on Liverpool Striker

Depending on the wages, for 2 years it wouldn' t be a bad deal for an experienced striker as a backup to Kane. The issue here isn't the quality of the player, it's whether or not he'll stay healthy. And recent years indicate he won't, he's very injury prone.

He's been pretty much fit all this season hasn't he? Despite a brief cameo in September, Klopp hasn't bothered with him.

He's not going to get much time with our front 3 being healthy for the most part and with Shaqiri being a better fit for the wide positions.

Daniel Sturridge: Ex-Liverpool striker arrives in Turkey before expected Trabzonspor move

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has arrived in Turkey before his expected move to Trabzonspor.

The 29-year-old was released by the Reds in the summer after a six-year stay during which he scored 67 goals in 160 appearances.

The former England forward began his career at Manchester City before joining Chelsea in 2009.

He also spent six months on loan at Bolton during his time with the Blues before making the move to Anfield.

In July, Sturridge was banned from playing football for two weeks and fined £75,000 after being found guilty of breaching betting rules.

He was given a six-week ban, four of which were suspended, and was free to play again on 31 July.
