Just heard about this crash and Hubert's death. That's so sad :(. Looked a mighty crash from the clip above.

Heartbreaking for someone to die doing what they love, so young as well. RIP.

Here's hoping that Correa makes a full recovery. No information on the extent of his injuries at the moment; but he's reportedly stable and being treated in CHU Liége.

Hard to find the right words when a 22 year old dies in a sport we all love. You'd think the major series are dangerous like F1, Indycar, Nascar, and you'd normally wouldn't expect it in Formula 2, where all the young people race, which makes it even harder to fathom. Just shocking, really. Had tears in my eyes when I heard about the news. RIP, and may it be a lesson to make motorsport even more safe, even if it somehow becomes different to what we are used to. The life of the people should ALWAYS be a priority. Nothing else matters.

Motorsports will never be 100% safe no matter how many safety improvements are put in place. We've fortunately come a long way since the deathtraps of the 60s and 70s and technology is constantly improving so we're all a bit lulled by the false sense of security but in the end, you just can't beat physics; if you have people driving vehicles to their limit at 250kmh+ speeds there inevitably will be a significant degree of risk involved. That's also part of the thrill, the appeal and the glamour; just like in all extreme activities, the sense of danger, excitement and adrenaline rush is what has always drawn people to motor racing. Everyone involved in it is well aware that the possibility of tragedy is always looming; it's the inherent nature of the sport. As unfortunate and heartbreaking as it is, today's events are a reminder that it's a dangerous game they've all chosen to play.

Fuck.

@nudge and I were just talking about him and Zhou making the move to F1...

I have followed F1 religiously this year and I cant grasp this.

I saw the wreck earlier which at an American football match, heard the news later and all I can say is that I feel lost. I mean....fuck...I'm lost.. tears, anger, depression....its all there.

RIP hubert...  damn I was so excited to see you your F1 future. I just cant make sense of this.

Good luck to Correa in his recovery. I dread to think how he feels if he is aware of what happened with Hubert :(

Five drivers were involved in that crash in one way or another. Alesi Junior was visibly shaken at the paddock just before the F1 race started; it must be (or will be) even worse for Correa... Hope he makes a full recovery both physically and mentally. It's tragic but in the end he's very lucky to have survived this and I hope he won't carry the guilt with him for what happened to Anthoine.

Trident will only run one car at Monza as Alesi's car has been impounded by the Belgian authorities due to being involved in a fatal accident. Boschung will have to give up his seat for Alesi.

Also there will be a gravel trap put in that run-off in Spa again. This was planned already (for the motorcycles mostly) so is not a direct consequence of the Hubert accident but it's been a long time coming...

When did they get rid of them? I kinda missed the exact point they removed them. I remember when Villeneuve and Zonta (both BAR's I believe) crashed there and rolled over several times.

There were ongoing changes to the layout since the 90s I believe but they put tarmac run-offs around Eau Rouge and on the outside of Blanchimont in 2002.

Correa's condition has deteriorated after he has been moved to a specialist unit in the UK and he's now in an ICU in a "critical but stable" condition as he has to be placed in an induced coma due to acute respiratory failure :(

I wonder whose "brilliant" idea it was to put sausage kerbs there. Seriously. Just put grass and gravel back ffs.

It takes an accident to make people think. Those kerbs are being removed now already.

Glad Peroni is OK... Will never say a bad word about halo again.

Also has anyone else watched the F3 qualifying? 13 drivers have been penalized for backing up and slowing down and impeding other while trying desperately to get the slipstream... Ridiculous.
