Birmingham City will be deducted nine points by the English Football League for breaching profitability and sustainability rules, reports BBC WM.

The sanction would see Blues drop from 13th to 18th in the Championship, five points above the relegation zone with eight games to play.

Losses in excess of £13m per year over a three-year period are not accepted under EFL rules.

An Independent Disciplinary Commission considered the matter on Monday.

There is no official confirmation of the punishment from the EFL at this stage, but it is understood that there will be no further financial penalties for the club and their transfer embargo will be lifted, allowing them to trade players in the summer.

Has any punishment come from the Grealish incident? Should be docked a few for that too and even more for then having banners of support to the muppet at the next game.

You can't start docking points for that. You'd get fans of rival clubs to do it to screw them over.

Birmingham City have sacked manager Garry Monk after just over a year in charge of the Championship club.

Edit: More

There had been talk earlier this month that ex-Middlesbrough, Swansea and Leeds boss Monk, 40, would resign over the exit of Jota to rivals Aston Villa.

Monk's assistant Pep Clotet has been named caretaker head coach.

"The board of directors are hopeful that over time the team can adopt a fresh and modern footballing philosophy," a statement said.

Still find it amusing how they sacked Rowett when they were around 7th, on brink of play-offs then hired Zola (?) and ended the season with Harry Redknapp finishing well in to the bottom half...

Birmingham City fined £42,500 after Jack Grealish was attacked by a fan

Birmingham City have been fined £42,500 after a Blues fan attacked Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish last season.

Paul Mitchell ran onto the pitch and hit Grealish from behind during March's Championship derby between the sides.

Mitchell was jailed for 14 weeks on 11 March.

An independent regulatory commission has also warned Blues about their future conduct, having been found to fail to ensure the supporter conducted himself in an orderly fashion.

The three-person commission was unanimous in its decision, which Birmingham have the right to appeal.

Birmingham, who must also pay the unspecified costs of the commission on top of the fine, argued it did "all due diligence" to control spectators at St Andrew's for the second city derby.

The commission acknowledged Blues "did many things 'right' in preparation" and gave credit for the club's response to the incident.

However, there were a "number of serious failings" considering the "nature" of the game and "history of animosity between the clubs".

It added that they "fell very significantly below the standard" of due diligence and placed breaches at the "upper end of the range of seriousness". It was also stated that "in some respects" Birmingham "was almost cavalier".

The incident happened after both sets of players had been involved in a melee when Blues midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld fouled Grealish in the fifth minute of the game.

Both clubs were fined £5,000 by the Football Association on 18 March for failing to control their players.

Mitchell, who was banned from attending any football matches in the UK for 10 years, was himself fined £350, which included £100 compensation for Grealish's "pain, discomfort and shock".

The Villa captain went on to score the winner in the derby.
