Naming rights to be given to a charity, to be decided, from next season.

I do wonder if a Grenfell-associated charity will get the rights. Only a stone's throw from the stadium...

Queens Park Rangers are to gift naming rights to their Loftus Road home to a charity from next season and have asked supporters to choose the cause.

It will be the first time the ground will be known by a different name.

Supporters of the London side have been asked to nominate charities which have strong local connections to the club's base in Shepherd's Bush.

Chief executive Lee Hoos said it will "help a charity get exposure they would never normally be able to achieve".

In a statement, he continued: "There are so many worthwhile causes out there who do incredible things, so the next question was how we decide which charity to work with.

"Consultation with fans is something that I have always believed in, and so it makes absolute sense to let the supporters make that decision."

Naming rights are often a lucrative source of income to clubs who choose to sell them, with Premier League clubs pulling in tens of millions of pounds, while League One club Peterborough recently agreed a 10-year deal worth £2m, which will see their ground renamed the Weston Homes Stadium.

Rangers have asked fans to consider the impact the charity they suggest has on the community, how the cause will "benefit from broader recognition" and if it has "appropriate internal infrastructure" to capitalise on any increased awareness.

QPR, who have played at Loftus Road for more than 100 years, have set a 3 May deadline for nominations.

After that a shortlist will be agreed, with supporters then given the chance to vote for their preferred choice.

Good gesture though the owners obviously after a bit of good publicity after the disasters they’ve had in charge recently.

Would most likely expect a Grenfell charity as Loftus Road was where the charity game was played.

This means the football club were unable to attract a sponsor for the ground which would be worthwhile. Grenfell would be a nice touch, but it would not solve the many problems that football club has inflicted on itself over the past 5 years. League one beckons more than a return to PL, which is probably how major sponsors look upon Lotus Road.

It's a shame to hear they've abandoned their idea of a charity sponsoring the ground and done the predictable thing of going with a car manufacturer.

Would expect a lot of votes for something related to Stan Bowles in all honesty. A legend at the club who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s and they do a lot for charity and had a friendly against Bournemouth last summer as a Benefit Match with a percentage of the gate receipts going to Alzheimer’s charities.

If it’s Grenfell do you reckon they will be illegally sub letting too?

Why would you even say that? The first reaction to the mention of Grenfell is to try and besmirch the disaster with spurious claims of criminality, which even if true, wouldn't take away from the horrific nature of what happened. You really are deeply unpleasant.

Nothing spurious about it, there was illegal subletting going on. Nobody’s denying that being burned to death isn’t a horrible thing to happen, but let’s not pretend these were the milk of human kindness in that block it’s fairly obvious that. To suggest they name a stand after it is looking to shamelessly profit from it in my mind.

Also knowing QPR they probably will illegally sublet so my comment stands.

Shamelessly profit from a tower block burning down?

Whether there's subletting or not going on shouldn't take away from the tragedy of it all, which it appears you downplay just because there was some kind of illegal activity there.

You realise this wouldn't be the first and won't be the last tower block that has subletting going on in it right?
