They've just mentioned on the Queens commentary that Paolo Maldini (yes, that Paolo Maldini) is making his professional tennis debut at the age of 49 this weekend, playing doubles at a Challenger event in Milan. Will have to keep track of that one xD!

It's the culture of the city I'm afraid, pretty much every decent academy product of Birmingham football clubs only do well once they get out of Brum. Frankie Gavin all the talent in the world just parties too much, Macklin was the same I could pretty much name any boxer in the last 20 years. Dan Evans again talented but also it's a big city with next to no media attention, Coke is everywhere women are quick to jump on a meal ticket.  Moeen Ali was a write off till 24 ish because he was off out partying, Woakes was another now he's settled down into a stable relationship he's kicked on. Some of the kids here are frighteningly talented but by 18 most are too busy out and about pissing talent down the drain. My mate was a talented swimmer competing in nationals aged 11-12 come 15 weed n Coke not been in a pool unless pissed on holiday in 15-16 years. It's still very much the culture here to get mortal when you can.

AC Milan and Italy great Paolo Maldini's professional tennis debut ended in defeat at the Aspria Tennis Cup in Milan.

Maldini and doubles partner Stefano Landonio lost 6-1 6-1 to Poland's Tomasz Bednarek and Dutchman David Pel.

The 49-year-old earned a place at the tournament with Landonio, who is also his coach, by winning a qualifier.

The Milan event is part of the Challenger Tour, one tier below the top-level ATP World Tour.

Landonio, 46, was once ranked 975th in the world, and has coached Maldini since he retired from football.

Maldini, capped 126 times by Italy, made his AC Milan debut in 1985, and played his final Serie A match for them in May 2009, a month before his 41st birthday.

A defender, he won seven Serie A titles with Milan, as well as the Champions League - or the European Cup, as it previously was - five times.

Zverev looks like he's actually "the one" after the endless false dawns of Dimitrov, Raonic, Kyrgios, Nishikori, Thiem etc. About time.

Wouldn't be surprised if Murray and or Djokovic turned back up and swept up a bunch of the big titles again next year though.

The tour has become a joke. An ageing Federer and Nadal still easily dominating players in their prime. They take a week off and you get Sock and Krajinovic competing in a Masters final. Shambolic.

Kyle Edmund is the 6th Britishman to get to an Australian Open semi final, it was a deserved win but definitely sloppy. Gave away a lot of points which could have led to a more comprehensive win but only 23, hopefully a bright future ahead for British tennis outside of Murray.
