No... Niki :(

An absolute legend, cheated death numerous times, thought he'd pull through this time as well... Worst news in a long time.

Condolences to his family.

RIP :(

Very sad to hear of his passing.

The sport has lost a legend today. What he had to suffer through and still come out the other side to win more was special and unique, not to mention how brave he was.

RIP Niki.

Ever seen "Rush"?

RIP Niki. Grew up watching him as a pundit on RTL.

No - but I have heard of Niki a lot, knew of his accident, and he seemed like a good guy.

"It is quite amazing firstly that he lived after the accident and then to come back as quickly as he did," Ecclestone told BBC Sport.

"I sat with him before the first race he came back at Monza, and he came back from practice, took his helmet off and there was blood running down his face because obviously nothing was healing properly.

"So he had that patched up a bit, put the helmet back on and finished qualifying - so that's Niki.

He just had massive balls of steel in general and his perseverance and "never give up" mentality is what made him a legend.

He cut ties to his wealthy family after his grandfather interfered and blocked him from getting sponsored by the Austrian bank as he wanted to stop him from racing when he was just starting out; Niki went on and took out numerous loans to finance his racing career.

He told Enzo Ferrari that the car he was supposed to drive was shite.

He told the priest who was giving him his last rites after the crash in the hospital to fuck off because he wasn't dead and that made him so angry that it inspired him to fight harder to stay alive.

He underwent extremely painful lung-cleaning procedures (among other severe injuries) and returned to racing just 42 days after the crash with unhealed burn wounds and still managed to qualify 5th and finish 4th in the race.

He boycotted the last race in Fuji in the 76 season due to safety concerns; drove only one lap and left the circuit, willingly giving up his championship hopes to protest risking drivers' lives over TV contract.

He stood up against Boeing and made them acknowledge their technical fault after a plane belonging to his airline had a fatal crash in Thailand. To do that, he ran numerous flight simulations and offered to fly on a 767 with two pilots and repeat the scenario to see if the accident could have been prevented by the pilots.

He came out of retirement and won his 3rd title.

He survived two kidney transplants.

Death only managed to take him while he was asleep.

Legend.

I'm sorry to be incredibly ignorant, but can you explain who James Hunt is and how him and Lauda are connected?

Do you or did you ever watch Tennis? It's like the Borg vs McEnroe rivalry. Two of the best in the game, with different styles, trying to best each other for over a decade.

A British F1 driver. Hunt vs Lauda rivalry in F1 in the 70s is arguably one of the biggest sport rivalries of all time. Both incredible drivers, both unique characters, both champions; they fought hard on track but had immense respect for each other. James Hunt led a very turbulent life which suited his playboy image and passed away in the 90s at the age of 45. That movie Tommy mentioned ("Rush") actually tells the story of their rivalry.

Embarrasing that a shit rumor of Sarri to Juventus makes the headline :dam:

This is a magazine that makes 90% of it's profits on football, so they are just making sure it sells.
