Both Valencia and West Ham want to activate the release claus on his Celta contract. West Ham are offering more in wages but Valencia is a much better project.

What will he choose... Football or money?

Apparently Maxi Gómez has chosen Valencia over West Ham United.

More to follow

West Ham couldn't come up with a pay structure. So more a case of no other alternatives (not saying he wouldn't have chosen Valencia, but maybe decision was made for him due to West Ham's inability to get finances sorted).

Valencia is by far the better outfit to go to anyway so I hope it works out well for him over there.

He has officially signed for Valencia. With Santi Mina going the other way and rejoining his parent club, Celta.

Santi Mina and Iago Aspas in Celta's front line next season is certainly not a bad thing for them. This deal has benefited them much more than if Maxi had signed for another club. @SirBalon

That's a good deal for Celta Vigo to be honest. They were never going to be able to hold onto Maxi Gómez too long and this way they get a good goalscorer that also knows the club and has performed for them.

It is a beneficial agreement between all four parties.

Maxi gets to make a step up in his career and play in the Champions league, Mina will be playing regular first team football again, Celta get a player back who they were probably more gutted about losing than Maxi and Valencia get the goalscorer they are lacking. Nobody has lost here and all have benefited.

Valencia have made some top signings in this window in the likes of Maxi and Cilessen. If they can play how they did in the second half of last season for the whole of the next campaign then they could really give the top 3 something to think about, especially Atleti, who are now going through a bit of a rebuilding process. Then again, so are Real. New players or not, they will need to make vast improvements from last year.
