Fortunately the people of Hong Kong aren’t asking for that choice though. Seems they want to retain their sovereignty for as long as legally possible under that treaty. And China wants to exert more power over Hong Kong than they should. This is probably an issue where the UK should be involved, seeing as we’re on of the parties to that treaty. But there’s more pressing domestic issues, we’re not really in any position to stand up to a super power. Particularly one that the UK is going to be increasingly reliant on in years to come.
