Eco
Bit of an odd year, as two mid-table clubs from last year make Europe with Rennes and Strasbourg. Rennes are in as Champions of the Coupe de France, and Strasbourg are in as Champions of the Coupe de la Ligue. Both team will particiapte in the Europa League, with Strasbourg starting off in the Qualifying rounds as 4th seeded team in Group 6. In the first round they faced Maccabi Haifa, winning 4-3 on aggregate. In Round 3 of Qualifying, they were a 5th Seed in Group 2, set to face off against Lokomotiv Plovdiv (BUL), and which they won 2-0 on Aggregate. In Round 4 of Qualifying, they have been given a non-seeded spot in Group 3, and had an unlucky draw to set up a matchup with Eintracht Frankfurt. Matches will be played on 22 Aug & 29 Aug

Administrator Stan Posted August 21, 2019 Administrator Share Posted August 21, 2019 Think Frankfurt will be too strong for Strasbourg. Good test for them and good luck to them but can't see them winning. They'll be gutted they didn't get weaker opposition as once you get in to the group stages of EL, it can be fairly favourable given how many obscure teams make it. Always an outside chance of further qualification.

...Dan
Lille have the more difficult group, but both of them have avoided the really big clubs who are likely to challenge to win it. Lyon should be expected to get out of that group, and Lille won't be favourites to advance but should be able to give those 3 some good games. Eco
Yes - good draw for the French Sides. PSG will advance. Lyon might actually be favorites to win their group. Lille avoided the big players, and will likely finish last, but 'could' possibliy cause a stir.

Machado
I think Frankfurt will win but 2-1 could still see them out.
Administrator Stan Posted August 30, 2019 Administrator Share Posted August 30, 2019 Europa League Rennes in a group with Lazio, Celtic & Cluj. Difficult group to call! St. Etienne in a group with Wolfsburg, Gent & Oleksandriya. They should qualify with the Germans from that group.

Yeah - I think both certainly have a chance, with St. Etienne having a slightly easier group.
...Dan
Not good. Saint-Étienne still very much in it, only two points behind Wolfsburg in 2nd, but Rennes already out with two games left to play.
Administrator Stan Posted November 8, 2019 Administrator Share Posted November 8, 2019 Poor from Rennes. Especially after impressing last season. Is it just the transfer of Ismaila Sarr that's affected them or anyone else? St Etienne could be doing better but their manager change has probably not helped. They're doing better in the league so may still make Europe next season. But their EL group I'd have expected them to be more comfortable and to have at least won one of the games against Oleksandriya.
