Then later in the game you could have a probable penalty not given by the referee, and then have that decision upheld by VAR as it also falls in a grey area so the original decision stands. Subscriber CaaC (John)+ 5,358 Posted August 25, 2019 Subscriber Share Posted August 25, 2019 Thank fuck for that, with United losing at home to Palace and now Spurs losing at home to Newcastle this has made me relieved a wee bit...it can't just happen to United What a bloody crazy weekend of football with some of the results and the way it has started off it looks like the title race is going to be a two-horse race again, City going for 3 titles on the trot or Liverpool winning there first EPL Title to go with winning their European and Super Cup, our son has put £10 on his Liverpool winning the League and a separate bet of winning the double of League Title and retaining the European Cup this season, he used to be a bookies manager at Joe Coral's so I am not going to argue on that one with him. He makes them tick. If he plays well, generally so do Spurs. Until his situation is resolved, the unrest for him, the team and Pochettino remains. Their defensive line was organised and resilient but not only that, they got the last ditch tackles in and the blocks in. Dubravka did his bit too. Spurs were relentless in attack and wasteful in some parts - Lucas could have had a couple after some clear cut chances. The penalty call was ridiculous in the sense that it should have been given from Mike Dean and even if VAR then checked it it should have remained. As it was the officials should be turning that over. Not sure how it wasn't to be honest. Great 3 points for Newcastle. Confidence-boosting if nothing else. Perhaps many, including myself, are underestimating them? Maybe if they continue to play to Joelinton's strengths and keep him fit they could finish mid-table and not be in a relegation battle as expected? They know full well they've fucked up and they're just trying to confuse everyone to try and justify it. Absolutely ridiculous. Hayden was unlucky but he slipped over and wiped Kane out. That anyone who thinks otherwise has been conditioned to think any contact is a penalty and that you have no understanding of how hard it is to actually go down Dicked by Norwich then win at Spurs Brilliant reaction from us. This group of players have known in the last couple of years how to dig out big wins when needed and it's good to know it still exists. Thought an equaliser was coming in a 10 minute spell but outside of that never in much danger. There's hope yet as long as we stick to this formation and don't venture off to try and accommodate Shelvey again. That's the lesson from the opening 3 games for us. Same formation as last season needs to be the base to build from. Why are so many dropping down injured? It feels like the Souness era all over again. Yes, last week was bloody awful but a loss against Arsenal is expected and a win at spurs was definitely unexpected. They have to show this sort of resilience against every side though. Ritchie and Dummett were particularly impressive, Lamela on the other hand rather disappointing for me. Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld all set to leave on a free at the end of the season if Tottenham don't sell before the season ends or offer them market value wages. They pay the least out of the top 6 and it makes their yearly earnings look great but the players realising their value was always going to come around.
