Ansu Fati: Who is Barcelona 16-year-old with 100m euro release clause?

_108817297_fati.jpg

Ansu Fati... if you've never heard of Barcelona's new superstar, you can be forgiven: until a couple of weeks ago, neither had the vast majority of the Spanish club's fans.

But the 16-year-old has been thrust into the limelight after making history on Saturday, becoming the youngest player in La Liga history to register a goal and an assist in the same game.

Even more impressively, he needed only seven minutes to do so in his team's 5-2 demolition of Valencia. Just 110 seconds had elapsed when he opened the scoring by meeting Frenkie de Jong's low cross with a confident right-footed strike from 12 yards; five minutes later, he returned the favour by weaving his way into the box and picking out a precise pass for De Jong to convert.

Fati then continued to thrill the 80,000-plus Nou Camp crowd with a series of skilful thrusts down the left-wing, coming close to more goals on several occasions and making it plain that this prodigious teen is poised for greatness.

So, who is he and where did his sudden explosion on to the scene come from?

I wonder if before the season started this kid could ever dream about what’s currently happening to him.

Amazing really, he is also the same age as Xavi Simons who left Barcelona because he didn't feel he will get playing time so he decided to join PSG on the advice on his agent.....Mino Raiola.   It shows that that when you do get a chance for whatever reason no matter what age you are, you need to take it.

Im surprised it took this long for a thread to pop up about this kid. I watched the game against Valencia and thought he was very good. Barcelona have the makings of a star and if they keep him fit and give him more opportunities he's going to work out very well for them with the young squad they've already assembled.

So today Ansu Fati made the main article piece in Italy's most prestigious Sports paper, La Gazzetta dello Sport on a two page in depth analysis of his incredible progression and explosion into the world's football watching eye. He is due to make his debut for Spain's U-21 today and almost made the selection for the full national side a couple of weeks back which I'm sure will happen in the next call-up.

What's curious is that right now the biggest and most promissing names for the imminent future of football have almost all African heritage with Kylian Mbappé of France, Ousmane Dembélé of France, Ansu Fati now of Spain, Benoit Badiashile of France, Samuel Chukwueze of Nigeria.

But the most different one of them all and with more than just speed in his armoury according to most pubdits and this particular in depth article is 16 year old Ansu Fati. The Guardian also done an in depth article on Ansu Fati last week.

The youngest player to make his debut for Barcelona in La Liga and the Champions League.

The youngest to score and assist for the club.

The youngest player to ever score in Champions League history.

The youngest player to score for Spain.

Already showing alot to his game.

His record breaking goals are surely not tap ins either!

Watch this lad rise.

This kid is a future Ballon d'Or winner, absolute unreal talent.

The torch will be passed to him from Messi, just like Dinho passed it to Messi.

He's out for 4 months though now :(

Just hope he comes back without any long-lasting effect from a serious injury.

Him being out almost kills the season. It's an area of the pitch that already lacks depth and he was the side's best player this season in the majority of games.

Saying that, I'd go as far as saying Pedri is even more talented. Terrific talent for his age.

With players like these the future certainly looks bright. But injuries like this can be what ruins young players before they really kick start their career. Hopefully this isn't the case here.
