Michael
Former Celtic and Aston Villa manager Dr Josef Venglos has sadly died aged 84. Venglos, who was from Slovakia(formerly a part of Czechoslovakia), was the first manager from outside the United Kingdom to become manager of a top flight English club. Venglos took charge of Aston Villa in the summer of 1990, just after he had lead Czechoslovakia to the quarter finals of the 1990 World Cup as their manager. Venglos also managed other national teams such as Slovakia(after independence), Australia and Oman. But he is arguably most famous for his spell at club level as manager of Celtic. He bought club icons Lubomir Moravcik and Johan Mjallby to Celtic Park, while he also managed to lead Celtic to a famous 5-1 win over old firm rivals Rangers in November 1998. I personally remember Josef Venglos very well and he was always a gentleman of a manager. My thoughts and condolences go out to his family and to his friends for this sad loss. R.I.P.
