Scott Banks - Crystal Palace Winger Joins German club St.Pauli

Recommended Posts

Scott Banks, the Scottish Under-21 international winger, looks likely to join 2. Bundesliga side St. Pauli. Scotland's Scott Banks, who is 21 years old, is wanted by Championship side Blackburn Rovers, as well as Blackpool, with both sides being reported to be close to signing him in the last few days. However, it now seems like 2. Bundesliga side St. Pauli are now in pole position to sign the young Scottish winger. In fact, it has been reported that Scott Banks is currently in Hamburg for talks to complete the move to St. Pauli.

Scott Banks, who started his career at Dundee United as a teenager, was seen as a highly rated prospect and he soon made his big move across the border into England to join Crystal Palace in 2020. Since signing for Palace, he has had loan moves to Alloa Athletic, Dunfermline Athletic and Bradford City. His successful spell at Bradford City last season is what enticed Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool to sign him this summer. But alas, it now looks like Banks will join St. Pauli in Germany. Banks only has one year left on his Crystal Palace contract, which means that St. Pauli are likely to buy him at a favourable transfer fee price.

Banks, who can play as a winger or in attacking midfield, already has 6 international caps for Scotland's Under 21 national team. If the 21 year old's transfer to St. Pauli does go through, he will be the 2nd Scottish footballer this summer, to join a Bundesliga club from the top 2 tiers of German football, after Fraser Hornby joined SV Darmstadt of the Bundesliga. St. Pauli should be very happy if they manage to sign Banks, as he looks to play football in the 2. Bundesliga with St. Pauli, as opposed to Championship football with Blackburn Rovers. The fact that St. Pauli are likely to buy Banks at a cut-price, as he is on the last year of his contract at Palace, is an added bonus. He looks like he will be a very promising acquisition for St. Pauli, if they manage to pull this signing off.

It has been made official, St. Pauli have signed Scottish winger Scott Banks on loan from Crystal Palace for the 2023/24 season. Banks reportedly signed a new contract with Palace before he joined St. Pauli on loan. I am not sure if St. Pauli have an option to buy Banks at the end of the season if Banks has a successful year at the German club. Either way, he looks a promising addition to the Hamburg based club.

DONE DEAL: Crystal Palace midfielder Scott Banks joins St Pauli - Tribal Football

This article suggests that St. Pauli have an option to buy Scott Banks at the end of the season. I wonder if any of the Bundesliga followers on here knows how much the agreed option to buy fee is for Scott Banks?

I suspect that any agreed fee wouldn't be that much, after seeing what other clubs bid for Banks prior to him moving on loan to St. Pauli. But having watched him play, I think that he has got a heck of a lot of potential and I am really looking forward to seeing how he gets on at St. Pauli this season.
