Michael
It looks like Rennes's creative Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer is set to join Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg have agreed to break their transfer record and pay a record transfer fee for them of €35 million for Majer. Majer will be Wolfsburg's 7th major signing of the summer, after Wolfsburg already bought Maehle, Tiago Tomas, Vaclav Cerny, Zesiger, Rogeiro and Jenz. Wolfsburg have done well to beat a plethora of clubs to the signature of Majer and they add another quality player to their already impressive squad. Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Liverpool, Arsenal West Ham and Tottenham were also reported to be keen on Majer. Majer joined Rennes in the summer of 2021. In his first season at Rennes, he scored 6 goals and had 9 assists in the league for Rennes. He was a key player and lead Rennes to finish in 4th position in the French League and he was named in the French League's team of the season by L'Equipe. Last season he continued his good form and he again helped inspire Rennes to an eventual 4th place finish in the French League table. Majer currently has 22 international caps for Croatia and he has scored 4 goals. His last goal for Croatia was at the last World Cup against Canada. Majer also scored a penalty in the penalty shoot-out that knocked Brazil out at the World Cup in Qatar. Majer has been nicknamed the "new Luka Modric" by the press, as his style of play is similar to the veteran Modric. All in all, it looks like Wolfsburg have made another excellent signing this summer and certainly their most expensive signing yet, if the transfer of Majer to Wolfsburg does indeed go through.
