Max Eberl won't go to Bayern, extends 'Gladbach contract

Borussia Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl is staying with the Bundesliga club, ruling him out of the same vacant position at rival Bayern Munich.

'Gladbach says Eberl, who has held the position since 2008, has signed a new deal through June 2022.

The 43-year-old Eberl had been the favorite to take over at Bayern after Matthias Sammer stepped down for health reasons in July last year.

Bayern defender Philipp Lahm, who is retiring at the end of the season, previously turned down the role. That forced Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and president Uli Hoeness to look at other candidates.

Eberl says "there were a lot of rumors and speculation about me in the last months" but "Borussia Moenchengladbach is my club."

Well, that makes him even more likable. He did some amazing work over the last years, and it would have been a shame if he abandoned it. They still have a good foundation in Gladbach, and if they continue the way they have, they'll always be fighting for European Football.
