Steve Evans has been appointed as manager of Peterborough United after holding talks with the League One club.

Evans and his assistant Paul Raynor left Mansfield Town on Tuesday after the club "reluctantly accepted" their resignations and Evans was in the stands for Peterborough's 2-1 win over Walsall later that evening.

The victory was Posh's first in eight matches, ending a poor run of form that has seen them drop out of the play-off places and resulted in manager Grant McCann's sacking on Sunday.

Mansfield Town are set to appoint Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft as their new manager, Sky sources understand.

Sky Sports News understands the 44-year-old has agreed to take over at Field Mill, after Steve Evans resigned on Tuesday before being appointed at Peterborough United.

Mansfield have confirmed they have appointed a new manager, who will be unveiled at a news conference at the club's stadium on Thursday.

Surprised the great mind of Sol Campbell wasn't given the job.

It's beneath him.

Flitcroft now confirmed as manager. I'm a little surprised as I anticipated he'd be doing a little better at Swindon.
