  1. I'm not sure what the "partnership" entails but Lebron James has had a financial stake in LFC for a decade.
  2. Me neither, there are some great rivalries today but some of those rivalries from the 70's and 80's were the best. btw if you are an Ali fan did you ever read "Facing Ali" by Stephen Brunt? A great read, 15 boxers who had fought Ali being interviewed about the fights and the way it changed their lives. A great read.
  3. What an era that was. Hagler, Sugar Ray, Duran, Hearns, Barkley, Benitez, Minter etc. Friday night fights that cost zilch on terrestrial tv. Happy days.
  4. So sad to hear that Marvelous Marvin Hagler has passed away so suddenly. He was always one of my favourites. Shame the way his career ended, getting screwed by the judges in his last fight with Leonard and then have him refuse to give Hagler a rematch.
  5. Another, bit younger James Milner wouldn't be too bad either if he was out there.
  6. No doubt about that. I don't want to be greedy but the thoughts of having Didi in that midfield instead of Momo leaves me salivating. Ive only been supporting them for 60 years mate but it's unprecedented to me too. I can't disagree Rick, although I haven't given up on the Ox quite yet, I thought he was playing the best footy of his career before that last bad knee injury. As far as the midfield goes I'd love to see Fab, Curtis and Hendo all starting with Thiago, Shaqiri, Keita and (maybe wishful thinking) the Ox as backup/rotation.......not too shabby backup imho.
  7. I'm not necessarily disagreeing mate, I just feel that depth wise our squad is as deep now as it's ever been, I agree about the sublime midfield Rafa had (Didi if I remember correctly was pretty much done for us when Rafa took over though) Just like the sublime forward line Klopp has. Rafa as I said had more dependable CBs, but didn't have more than three quality ones at any given time, iirc Sami was pretty much finished for us when we signed Skrtel? if we'd lost Carra, Agger and Skrtel for a season we would have been pretty much in the same shape as we are right now. Anyway as I said, not necessarily disagreeing I just don't see any more depth in Rafa's day than what we have right now, more quality in midfield for sure but not as much depth imho.
  8. Rafa didn't have much more depth at CB, his CB were more dependable injury wise though. But take Rafa's first three CB out and you are getting into playing youngsters or Gerrard out of position a la Fabinho. I was more talking about the rest of the squad, I'd like to see a quality striker to add to Mo, Bobby, Jota and Mane We've got lots of depth in MF but can always add quality, as was the plan when we signed Thiago. I'm not saying we should stand pat in the summer, we don't need a massive rebuild, I'll be excited to see Elliot back, the emergence of Curtis Jones huge too. I know we are at either end of the positive/negative spectrum, it would be great to have two quality players for every position but we've never had that mate and with our financial restrictions we probably never will.
  9. This is probably the deepest squad we have ever seen at Liverpool. Imagine how we would have coped with the squads that Houllier or Rafa had? I'm not saying we don't need to strengthen in the summer, clearly we do, but you can count the teams on one finger that wouldn't have been up shit creek with the same amount (and length) of injuries that we have had. We are obviously going to take a financial hit this year just like everyone else but bearing in mind our record profits posted the last two seasons FSG really need to show Jurgen financial (not just moral) support this summer.
  10. FSG need to step up here, clearly we don't need a huge rebuild but if we are serious about challenging next season we need to add more quality to the squad just to keep up with the big spenders.
  11. It's concerning but I feel much better knowing that Jurgen is the right man to guide us through this. I like the way he has laid down some ground rules ie if you don't want to play for us then you can leave. We can't allow these contracts to run down, either they resign or we should sell 'em.
  12. It looks like the South American WC qualifiers scheduled for the end of March have been postponed. That would have been a nightmare if they had gone ahead.
  13. Surely that doesn't include them calling the ref a "cheating cunt" throughout a game?
  14. Not sure where we will end up this season? Almost 60 years since we last finished outside the top 8. An incredible record of consistency that would be a shame to see go by the wayside.
  15. Virgil and Joe.........seems like an eternity ago.
  16. I know your not serious and even though I've despised some of the cunts who have managed manu I just can't hate Ole. He comes across as a nice enough fella, he's actually too nice for the job, I just can't imagine him going nose to nose with a pissed off player. He just seems out of his depth, and it's just a matter of time before he get's the heave ho after expectations set in.
  17. It's always nice to have big dreams, even if they are unachievable. Never mind at least you'll always be remembered for your decade of domestic success.
  18. Will Citeh win a Champions League this Century?
  19. I'm worried about the prospects of Kabak and Phillips too Mike, I just think the opportunity to get Fab back in midfield is worth rolling the dice with Kabak and Phillips especially knowing that they would have the benefit of Fab playing in his holding midfielder role. It's probably a moot point though as I think it will be Fab and Kabak at CB.
  20. Our CL chances are slim to none but imho any chance we have is predicated on the team being able to get Fab back in midfield. To do that we really need to roll the dice with whatever CBs we have available. We all know that Fab can do the job at CB and if he stays fit I can see us picking up enough points to finish top 4, I just can't see us getting past one of the big names in the CL unless we have something resembling a balanced midfield.
  21. I remember that graffiti too, it was a church in Dovecot. A great signing for the reds, Shanks wanted desperately to sign Denis Law but the short sighted fuckers at Liverpool wouldn't pay the money (something like 10K at the time). We ended up with the Saint, can't remember what happened to Law though?
  22. Let's just say grabbing the Saint like that wasn't his smartest move.
  23. I was actually at that game John. He had to choose between footy and boxing, he said he made the right decision. We had him over here in Toronto, I remember picking him up at the airport, it took half an hour to get to my car, so many people wanting an autograph or a selfie with him. Crazy when you think that this was 30 years after he had hung up his boots.
  24. The word "legend" so overused these days but the Saint fit that bill. A great footballer and a hard man.
