there is adoption programs, millions of woman can't have babies due to no fault of their own and would adopt "unwanted" babies which is derogatory in itself.  most and I mean absolute majority of abortion cases are teen or preadolecent debauchery and the minor cases are outliers that I would agree are grounds for legal abortion.   American society is spoon fed smut, young girls groomed to be sluts by social platforms like only fans, Instagram and become overtly sexualized, cut that culture out and teach those "bible pusher do gooder" values or any developed system of moral teaching and unplanned yet negligently overlooked consequences can't arise.

the idea of extending prebirth rights and protections is founded on the liberal principal that all life is protected and sacred and equal before the law.

anywho the big elephant in the room is democrat politician condoning violence which ironically is seditious and treasonous particularly when directed against an organ of state like the judiciary from carrying out powers vested in it by the constitution.  oh dear.   Federalism is also recoglcnised that each state has power to regulate laws within their borders when representing their constituents, finally states get the power back and the will of the majority is carried out

72% of woman voted for regulatory legislation on abortion and around 74% were against the unlimited position RvW left.    the majority of woman don't agree that their rights infringed and it is really the communo anarchist movement that want minority will.

Are you aware of what's actually happening now though?

The states shown below are implementing bans on abortion. Not curtailments. For example Texas, which previously legislated a 6 week limit on abortion now has a law coming in 30 days that will outright ban all abortions from the moment of fertilisation with the only exception being to save the life of the mother.... Rape and incest are not sufficient grounds for an abortion.

In Australia it says 24 weeks and anything after 24 weeks requires the expert opinion of a specialist.  It mirrors the UK where Abortion is codified into legislation and sets the grounds upon which abortion may be allowed.   I am fine with codified law because it doesn't cast unlimited blanked of choice and may only be permitted in exceptional circumstances.

Canada is the same as the US,  up until childbirth,.

The benefit of codification is that while Abortion is "legalised" it is subject to statutory limitations on when it is allowed and who may determine this.  In the UK or even here in South Africa only a medical practitioner may determine this.   Further any practitioner or person caught violating statute has committed a criminal offense and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the Law.   I am fully on board with America now codifying abortion laws subject to the federalist system to which they are bound.   The Supreme Court in Roe excercised judicial overreach in that the doctrine of separation of powers prohibits the judiciary from "creating law",  the decision to set aside under judicial review "constitutional right of the judiciary as informed by constitutional doctrines" has had the effect of allowing individual states to now codify abortion and set the circumstances upon which it is allowed.

I really don't see the issue here other than the democrat party politicising identity politics again,  they had house and senate majority twice and did not codify it,  only now it is a topic because the democrats only have identity politics.

So you view that the likely outcome, and the reason for all this passion from the conservative side is to prevent abortions between 24 and 39 weeks and that's all this is about?

You expect the US states to land sensible laws that put them in the middle of the pack on a global scale?

america is the only country that allows late term abortion, which is an abhorrent  concept.

I'm pretty sure this is false. Can you provide some supporting evidence? How does the US law compare to Canada or Australia?

i suppose it was entertaining in a documentary presidential cry for help sort of way but the enquiry was a bunch of democrats and Liz Cheney.

The Senate found nothing so now while the democrats hold the house they push this as a "please vote for is".

if this was a threat to democracy and a few people could threaten a coup to topple the American government, then why has it not persisted?  if they were so so so very close why did they not return with armed militia to finish it, if that is how easy it is?

so anyways it looked like a Disney production, that testimony from a female cop that was knocked out but talks about slipping in pools of blood yet no photos confirmed it and most DC officers that day sustained no injuries.   One officer died from a heart attack but the BLM riots saw 27 police officers killed and over 100s wounded.

then we also have to wonder if they have evidence to indict Trump and other why not go to the Supreme Court?  a fair trial is premised on Audi Alteram Partum principles that both parties can state their case, what we saw was a desperate attempt to deflect Americans from the real problem, the democrat party.   in polls 70% didn't care about 6 Jan and 89% are deeply concerned about American economy and the government.

while fox showed a supreme court judge assassination failed attempt which is (undemocratic) or the threat that in less than 60 days america may be entering its biggest economic shrinkage since the 20's which will guaranteed result in a state of lawlessness and violance, liberal media showed a circus of coached testismonies that again prove fick all, and Fox still managed more viewers than all liberal media combined.

we all know what is happening, the democrats are in major shit so they are playing the man and not the ball as it were and how sweet it will be for them to lose the Senate and maybe even the house.

    Salaries: 5.2%

    inflation: 9%

    lol

The main reason this is being televised is to prepare the public for charges being laid.

  5. Thurgood Marshall was the first African American Supreme Court justice, and the most liberal justice in court history, who retired from the bench in 1991, and died 3 years later.

When he retired he was replaced by Bush senior with Clarence Thomas, the most conservative justice ever. If he'd waited a year to retire he'd be replaced by Clinton, and his replacement would have been liberal and then voted for Gore over Bush. So much would be different. Climate change action, and the makeup of the current court. Probably even the Iraq war doesn't happen.

  6. The disheartening thing about the supreme court is how long it will stay like this...

     6 Conservatives, 3 liberals.

The eldest Conservatives are Thomas 73, Alito 72, and chief Roberts 67, who's verging on becoming a liberal at this point as the only one who seems to care about the long term credibility of the court.

None of them are going anywhere for 10-12 years.

To flip that conservative bias it would take 20 years of democrats holding the presidency and the senate to be able to confirm... If the Republicans get in even for 4 years those guys will retire and be replaced with a 40 year old. So you're talking decades more rulings by the current crop.

American politics is so divided it verges of being a hostage situation for half the country each time one party's on office... When the red and blue halves of the country are so clearly delineable I really wonder if the average person wouldn't be better if they just went their separate ways.

How long do these guys need to debate this one topic? And how does the supreme court work? Can they just decide to randomly change a law at any point?

They need a case put to them on which they can rule, which gets escalated through the system up to the supreme Court. But the cases aren't arbitrary, random cases of the day. They are crafted by people who were seeking to take their case to the SC looking to challenge specific aspects of Law. For example this tweet thread shows the process allegedly planned to get gay marriage repealed after and based upon the roe ruling. It's grim.

  8. Great news about Klopp extending. I'm loving this era to bits and don't want it to end.

Klopp burnout last year... My theory was that Klopp is a more emotional and passion driven manager than say Pep, and he and his team are fuelled more by the noise and excitement in the stadium than City, among others. City are technicians. So the technicians kept executing their style perfectly in empty stadiums, but Klopps team, among others of similar style, performed below average relative to their potential through the pandemic, because they didn't have the crowd energy there to feed off

It is mad how long it's been between books. He's doing so many other projects as well alongside it. I'm an eternal optimist but even I compromise at being hopeful we get The Winds of Winter before he kicks the bucket but simply can't see him finishing the last book. There are also question marks over whether two books will be enough to finish the rest of the story or whether he'll need another one! It must be hard for him though, the biggest project of his career and a story he's told over the course of decades, and he's had to see someone else tell the end of it for him on television (admittedly due to his own failure to produce the goods) and from what we know, they sort of butchered his idea of it too. It's clear he has a lot more passion at this point for some of his other projects, including this new series. Focusing on the positive, I do think it will be decent.

It's terrible. He's going off on all these tangents with side projects which distract him from the core mission. If he doesn't have the stones he should just hire a ghost writer to finish the books for him. Whoever he'd have wanted to be engaged post humously.

I found Wheel of Time to be a bit meh, started well and then just seemed to do whatever it wanted without much reason. Didn’t finish it

I struggled with the first 3 episodes but it was ripping along in episodes 6-8 and left me wanting more.

The overall world and story arc in the wheel of time book series is absolutely fantastic. The books probably grabbed me more than Thrones tbh, though it has a few lean patches.

My main criticism of the show is not enough of the folk lore and world building came through in the early episodes.

GRRM is heavily involved in house of dragon.

As he was in the last season's of the show, and was able to provide the key details around which the last season's were built.

I dunno. GRRM is dead to me. Not only for the show but for the profound writers block that's seen me waiting a decade for a book that I now think we won't see until after he's dead

  15. I wish I could be excited about House of the Dragon. But like everyone else I know who watched GOT I'm convinced it will be shit, as the show was once it went beyond grrm's source material.

I just watched Wheel of Time season 1 and will be much more excited for season 2 of that, because they're similarly awesome books, we know how the last one ends, and isnt shit.

    , And

  16. It seems like America has no serious economic-left, but a fairly vocal and visible social left which do dumb and polarising things like taking Abraham Lincoln's name off schools due to seeing him as racist.

Bernie Sanders is proof there's public appetite for something more but the way he's ostracised suggests there's very little room for him in the democratic party.

  18. I'm starting to think the deterioration in physical health which happened to so many through covid due to lockdowns, shut gyms and golf courses, etc may really leave a mark.

Also covid itself can leave huge marks and lead to long term heart and lung conditions so this is no anti covid comment.

It's just absolutely critical that we all get out and start exercising again and putting our well-being first and try restore our baseline to our pandemic levels.
