People in the centrally located city of Dnipro are volunteering to fight in their droves. Similar things are happening all over Ukraine. The Russians are not having things easy at all as it stands. Ukrainian media are claiming that 4,000 Russian military personnel have been killed, while the Russians are claiming that their own Russian casualties are only a handful, the truth is probably somewhere in-between. Nonetheless, it looks like the Ukrainian people are coming together to give the invaders one hell of a fight, in order to protect their motherland.

Both sides propaganda arms are in full swing the ghost of Kiev is fake snopes disproved that today but already t-shirts are being sold

Putin's invasion of Ukraine is not because of NATO, rather it is precisely for the reason Ukraine wanted to be in NATO in the first place.

The poking the Russian bear is a Nigel Farage hot take, common today on the extreme political wings in Britain and the contrarian writers. Desperate to inflict some sort of score against our own politics. Everything must be framed as to how "the west" (an outdated cold war label and thought process) is in the wrong here.

Lol because Farage used the term poking the bear you’ve chucked him in this, it’s precisely about Nato, Putin has said as much for 8-9 years. As soon as The pro Russian government collapsed due to protests when they aligned themselves with Russia over the west (still a valid term) he took action. He’s an autocratic ruler with a huge border and the expansion of nato concerns him because it weakens Russian influence and means a larger border would have to be defended which is poking a paranoid man even more.

German and France were reluctant about Ukrainian membership of NATO back in 2008 because they saw this coming. Nato already border them in 5 countries now a huge land border to the south is encircling him, are we surprised he’s going in to foster regime change with a puppet similar to what he has with Belarus?

I suppose it makes sense from their point or view. If scotland were to separate from the uk and they wanted to form an alliance with an enemy if ours we wouldn't be happy about it

More like if in 1939 Rep of Ireland would have allowed Nazi Germany to use its military bases. Of course the US aren’t the Nazi’s and the Russians aren’t us but would we have stood by?
There’s plenty to take Putin to task over, this ironically until he went in arguably wasn’t one of them, in fairness Russia have a legitimate security concern, the west hasn’t listened after 8 years he’s had enough and escalated it. It’s why I said endgame is regime change/ no nato deal. I doubt very much he wants to get tied down occupying Ukraine long term, maybe just the Donbass area.

Crimea  was because it’s their warm sea port the Russian navy was there to suddenly have your Black Sea fleet in a pro NATO country was unacceptable to them.

So I'm  not that educated on the subject. How is Putin justifying the invasion? From what I have read and heard there are people in Ukraine who wanted to stay with russia and the Soviet union. Those people are genrally in certain regions of russia and Putin originally said he was trying to free those areas from Ukraine. That was his justification for invading crimea.  So what is his justification for taking the whole country when they don't want to be part of russia? From what I can gather he says Ukraine must not become part of nato. So it seems as if it is about power and influence really. He thinks that ukaraine should be part of russia or at least controlled by russia?

Long story short it’s about NATO and Ukraine joining NATO. NATO is effectively ran by the US, and a military alliance. If UKraine joins NATO it means the yanks can put troops on his border, Putin is not having it. Think Cuban middle crisis 2.0 except Kennedy had a brain and this senile old man is a front for the real people in power over in Washington the warmongering defence contractors.

He’s not justified invading a sovereign nation but he’s been provoked by the impeding tanks on his lawn. Mexico for example can’t do fuck all with American approval, Russia wants the same from Belarus/Ukraine etc

I agree. But at the same time, I understand why people do that.

Hitler is for us what the Napoleon and the French revolution was to people in the 19th century. Any historical event is measured and compared to Hitler and the World War II. We still very much live in the shadow of that war.

By the way, I saw a guy on Twitter comparing Putin´s invasion of Ukraine not with Hitler´s agression of Czechoslovakia but with Mussolini´s invasion of Ethiopia in 1935. I agree, that was a very good point. It´s a much better comparison. It was a widely condemned attack and it isolated Mussolini, driving him to the arms of a more powerful ally, Nazi Germany.

Before the invasion of Somalia, Mussolini and Hitler didn´t get along very well, considering both had conflicting claims regarding austrian territory.

I think the same could happen with Russia. Ukraine will make Russia into a pariah state and will drive Putin to the arms of China.

They’re already in the arms of China, demand for gas and common enemy in the US has made them bed fellows years ago.

this has been going on 8 years thousand dead only now is the worlds media paying attention. Granted Putin has escalated it but where was the condemnation 6 months ago?

  5. It goes with out saying Putin is a dictator he does some unsavoury things.

But I find the shrieking and comparing of him to Hitler ridiculous we’ve (the west or more specifically the US and it’s NATO allies who are basically ran by the US) poked the bear here, what did we think would happen?

My prediction for endgame here is he will annex the Donbas and leave western Ukraine to its devices and peace deal will mean no NATO membership for new Ukraine.

The "unnamed Everton player" under investigation for child sex offences is still technically under contract, just suspended. I expect that's what will happen here too until there's an actual conviction.

There is now rumours doing the rounds he was arrested over a year ago for kidnapp and assault of the same girl but charges were fully dropped.

Apparently this is why Southgate made a statement claiming Mason needed to sort his situation out otherwise he wouldn't have an Englsnd career.

You posted that after I wrote it but yeah this has been suppressed by the look of it. I can’t confirm or deny that I know that for a fact though 😉

There are bound to be clauses in their contracts where is says they can be dismissed if they bring bad publicity towards the club? Surely every team protects themselves when it comes to how their players are acting in public.

I think we read more into social media trends than they do, this half leaked last year and then there was a backlash against the accusations, some even labelling it racist to suggest it was him. Behind the curtains of the game there’s a lot of scumbags mate. Same old story millionaire by 17 from shit homes surrounded by people who never tell them No. it creates monsters

Funny how it was brushed under the carpet with Foden though. This is completely different issue aside though.

Foden will fuck up again mate, he’s no saint either however Pep is probably a lot more like Fergie was in the fact he will try to cut it out.

I find it stunning that City still haven’t binned Mendy off fully. The man has been charged with 6/7 counts of rape….at one point do you say “there is no smoke without fire” and cut ties. He was also kept in custody for months before the most recent appeal for bail so there must be mounting evidence against him.

If I am Utd, I am cutting ties with this fucker right now. It does not reflect well on the club having this shit strung along and along. He’s very talented, and I appreciate they would lose a valuable asset. But that sort of thing shouldn’t come before doing the right thing, which is cutting all ties with this disgusting piece of shit.

United won’t bin until there some form of verdict given the likelihood now of some kind of proceedings. They are liable for wrongful dismissal if so, same with City they will cut ties after the verdict as it protects them as it will most likely void his contract. Both are done now though in reality

  9. I know things about this sport on occasion, I said about Mendy and Grealish but you have to be careful as it’s technically liable on forums and you can’t make claims.

All I’ll say is that given what I’ve heard about him before and his character as a person this doesn’t shock me in fact I think it’s probably the tip of the iceberg.

For them though, they are two very good signings, enough to push them on.

Villa have no excuses for me now, they should be finishing 8th with what they have invested into personnel the last three seasons.

Forget Grealish and £100m they recouped for a minute.

£140m the first season up, £90m the second season and now currently this season, they have spent £116m.

So we are talking best part of a £350m rebuild. Ok, Grealish has paid for £100m of that but factor in wages also and they really, really should be pushing on now and pushing past your Wolves, Brighton's etc.

I think there will be no excuse end of next season should Gerrard not deliver European football.  In terms of resources More will go in, in the summer, I think a bit of pride was hurt by Jack being a duplicitous little shit that he is so the owners have put there foot on the gas a bit

Loved Mastodon from Remission to Crack the Skye. Even of their 'hard rock albums' I love once more around the sun, and don't mind the hunter. Though Emperor of sand was hit and miss IMO.

I would run 10k’s to this album when it came out  and I have to say I loved it

Man City's average attendance didn’t drop below 26,500 between 1997-2000 when they were in the second and third tier which is extremely good.

Have to feel for those fans at times like this.

The problem is that city are traditionally a working class mid table support of a similar size to say a palace or Wolves. They would go in numbers throughout their history but that hasn’t transferred to the modern era, yeah they probably have picked up a few million fans globally but that’s not boots on the ground in and around the city. Nowadays they’re  something 18 year old glory hunting kids on social media follow and that doesn’t equal full stadiums. It’s probably too much for a working class family from Stockport to afford and I bet there’s a minority that don’t like what they’ve become. United are the glamour club have been for 50 years and will continue to do so, we critics the fair weather fans but all the United fans I’ve known 20 odd years are still United. City’s new breed are a different generation and there’s still a massive element of father and son going to games making it habit.
Also they win but it’s a team thing there’s no 1 superstar although I suspect they’ve tried to change tact with Grealish, but his appeal to a neutral was coupled with his boyhood club fairytale so won’t translate easily

Lateralus is their best single track, hands down. The drumming is unreal. Agree Tempest is fantastic, as is Invincible.

I can’t tell you a favourite there’s just so many great tracks over their catalogue. On  the fear innoculum song did you notice that it says mitosis at exactly the halfway point of the song? It’s little shit like that, that makes me love them.

I never really got into Tool - but pretty much everyone I know who's got a similar taste in music to me likes them. If I wanted to try to get into them, what albums (or songs) do you think I should go with?

Should I do the standard: start at the beginning of the discography and work your way to their latest album? Or you think there's maybe some songs I should listen to first before doing that?

Start at the beginning but for me they really kick into gear around Ænima then Lateralus to 10,000 days is a band at the peak of their powers. Lateralus is straight up genius, what’s so cool about it from a musical view is that the time signatures are all over the place, I never got this before but getting back into it and watching YouTube musicians breakdown songs i now appreciate these guys are just showing off. The  actual track Lateralus is done to the Fibonacci sequence ffs they’re literally taking the piss and winning Grammy awards for it.

don’t skip undertow though some good tracks to spiral out and listen to but start at Ænima.

I find their earlier stuff (EP and Undertow) to be a bit boring. My favorite albums were Lateralus and 10,000 Days. Fear Innoculum is good but a tad repetitive.

13 years off comeback and deliver that is staggering, 7empest is technically such a great piece of work. I’d recommend watching this to see how clean it is and appreciate that these guys pushing 60 are still arguably the best in the game

I am a bit worried having heard from Christian Purslow on Villa's Twitter. He talks of who they've brought in. The players who have established themselves from last season. And the kids. Was kind of still hoping for another name or 2.

Overall, it's difficult to know what to make of it all. But it's the crazy finances we all know about & the culture that you must get to a winning club.

Lineker on Twitter talking of it being like him leaving Leicester. Garth Crooks on BBC's Final Score every time asked to talk about Villa including the line 'he needs to get out of there'.

You do get Tim Sherwood types who was at Villa briefly motivating Benteke that he could be at Real Madrid in a few seasons time. Perhaps because they didn't have the aspiration then to say they could be top 4/5 in a few seasons.

The thing with professional footballers is probably that they live on the inside. I imagine the vast majority have never played for their club. And so have a totally different mindset to most fan groups. It should be obvious really when transfers have always happened regularly for many, many years.

For some it is the money. That just has more zero's now that it did. Ashley Cole made that clear. Arsenal to Chelsea all those years ago & when he talked a bit about it much later. But Villa themselves have a track record of buying from more clubs than they sell to, in terms of prime age players. Ings & Buendia right now. Darren Bent in the past. And Blackburn Rovers way back whenever were like Leicester & Chelsea in the same entity.

For some it's the trophies. See again Lineker with his long standing joke at Shearer at FA Cup games. It really is just a noisy merry go round. But for many VIlla fans I'm sure they thought Grealish seemed more Gabby Agbonlahor than Gareth Barry.

If Grealish had gone to Real, Barca, Juve, or whoever abroad. Like before the Premier League was the place to be, it probably wouldn't grate so many so much. But make no mistake, to a core of Villa fans, being where City are is where they see the long term goal. Manchester ideally, Leicester at the very least. So I do predict long term resentment despite team-mates & club hierarchy trying to sound placating & dignified.

We offered him to Madrid to spite city

Smith is just a character who is open to learn new things, it's why he was Brentford manager. Managers who are stuck in their ways don't get our job, so not surprising to hear of Smith learning from Grealish and I'm sure he learnt from Terry too.

Smith did a talk at Birmingham uni a few years back he said on Terry give me ambition rather than someone to plod, I like Smith but personally feel he will reach his ceiling before we do.

    Unsurprising tbh

Considering that most severe cases are Vitamin D deficient, there’s most likely something in this. I still wouldn’t recommend anyone start taking heavy doses of Vitamin D supplements - which I know some people have started doing. But for people who’ve tested positive, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re using supplements in treatment.

It’s a bit shit though because if everyone’s time outside is very limited - everyone’s going to have a harder time getting sun.

I don’t know about supplements but for my vit D it’s sun, eggs, beef, milk the good life
