Michael
RB Salzburg's Croatian defender Marin Pongracic is close to joining VFL Wolfsburg, although Southampton are also bidding for his signature. It looks like the 22 year old Croatian central defender, will be yet another Salzburg player to leave the Austrian club this January, after the departures of Erling Haaland and Minamino to Dortmund and Liverpool respectively. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/readsouthampton.com

Maybe - and that's also mental. Just shows what a ridiculous state football is in. 10 million for a currently 4th choice central defender in Salzburg who is extremely injury prone and has a history of disciplinary issues doesn't exactly sound like a steal for me... Yes, the transfer market really started to go mental about 3 or 4 years ago. Where average players in the top leagues were on the market for at least 20 million. I think that in Pongracic's case, as he is a younger player, one would assume that it's more an investment in potential. ie they see potential in him improving some of his skills, they see him becoming more mature and less indisciplined on the pitch and they hope he becomes fitter, with less injury problems etc It may or may not be a steal, only the future will tell. But in today's market, a club like Salzburg are able to ask for that amount, for one of their younger players deemed to have potential.
