Michael Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 It has been reported through several sources that Arsenal have spoken to Matondo's representatives and made them an offer for his services. It has been previously rumoured that the likes of Man United and Real Madrid were also interested in the Welsh winger. However, Arsenal's offer, appears to be the first concrete attempt to acquire Matondo's services. Matondo has a release clause of €60 million inserted in his contract. It is highly unlikely that Schalke will let him go for less than that amount. If such a transfer bid for Matondo officially comes about, I think that Schalke should by all means sell him for the betterment of the club. Matondo is a 19 year old with huge potential, but Schalke really do need to revamp their squad. It's high time in my opinion that Schalke got rid of dead wood such as Burgstaller, Caligiuri, Oczipka and Stambouli. They also definitely need to replace the young goalkeeper Schubert, who has looked out of his depth so far in the Bundesliga. Through the €60 million from Matondo's potential sale, Schalke could try to sign players like Todibo and Kenny on a permanent basis, as well as attempting to sign other younger players, to freshen the squad up. It's clear that Schalke are currently facing somewhat of a transition period, so it is vital that they make the right decisions, for the advancement of the club as a whole going forward. https://www.teamtalk.com/news/arsenal-contact-matondo-tailor-made-project
