Napoli have reportedly opened talks with Tottenham over a loan move for Argentine playmaker Giovani Lo Celso.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli have expressed an interest in signing the Argentina on loan with an option to buy.

The reigning Serie A champions are keen on the 27-year-old midfielder as they seek to strengthen manager Rudi Garcia's midfield options.

Tottenham are reportedly demanding that Napoli sign Lo Celso on a permanent basis, whether through a full transfer or on loan with an obligation to buy.

The demands have left 'a distance' between the two clubs in the early stages of negotiations.

Lo Celso has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, with Barcelona and Aston Villa among the clubs tracking the midfielder.

Barcelona manager Xavi is reportedly among Lo Celso's admirers, while the playmaker helped Aston Villa boss Unai Emery's former side Villarreal reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2021/22.

Lo Celso still has two years remaining on the five-year deal he signed at the north London club.

The midfielder has made 84 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions during a mixed spell at the club.

Lo Celso has remained a central part of Argentina's squad, with the midfielder making 43 appearances for the national team.

Despite uncertainty over his club future, Lo Celso was included in Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou's squad for their pre-season tour in Australia.

@Storts would you like to see him stay and how he does under Postecoglou, or happy to see him go?

Happy to see him go. He’s a good footballer, just not suited to the prem. Dont think he’s ever really wanted to be here either, so time to cut our losses. No loan though, has to be a sale.
