All viruses mutate, that's natural. Flu viruses mutate extremely fast and there are so many different strains, hence why we have a new flu vaccine pretty much every season. Coronaviruses mutate at a much slower rate and are much more stable as they have an inbuilt genetic proofreading mechanism, so a vaccine is likely to be effective longer and protect against numerous variants (most mutations are completely insignificant and do not matter). There's a good chance that this virus will never go away and will just circulate every winter as other four coronaviruses or flu, but with a high percentage of world's population acquiring immunity through vaccination or infection, it will not be a real threat anymore. That's how the pandemic will end, most likely.

Haven't  checked with my daughter on this, but perhaps nudge seems to have insight into some of the problems so here's a question for her!

With the variations assumed to be slight - however more problematical - assuming that we have to keep vaccinating to ensure safety, could the annual flu vaccine incorporate this to be useful for both with just one injection or will we have to have two in future?

I would say 'you couldn't make this shit up' but some of us probably could.

    Utterly shameless.

I am old enough not to get involved with Politics anymore.  I have endured years and years of listening to self-opinioned liars who are interested in whatever improves their own position without caring a damn about the rest of us - the days of Nye Bevan and David Steele are long gone - I spent the first two nights of my square bashing at Padgate being told that the prat in No 10 - a guy named Eden - had just invaded Egypt and that we were 'going there on Friday'.  Lately Johnson, Gove and Trump have exceeded all that the rest tried to do, but I am too old to let it bother me in the least - other than to try and help the younger ones get sorted if they need anything. Whatever those 'in charge' do, the world will somehow come through it all and the rest of us will - hopefully - survive and get over the present problems, but I fear for a lot of young guys I know who have yet to get their first job - and god knows from where that will come.  I still try and stick to my wish to all - young and old - simply

  3. My missus had her jab two days ago - like me she had lots of antib's in her blood and has had no after effects from the injection.  I am now a week after and have had no feeling at all where it went in and no problems - both had the Pfizer and due back in early April. Don't think we were just lucky, just believe that it is no problem and all should accept it when it is available.  Who knows, by May we might be able to go out for more than just a local walk!:hh:

  4. 24 hours after the jab and no effects - ill or otherwise.  Even by 5am I was able to roll over in bed and lay on the arm without any difficulty - this is probably the easiest injection I have ever had to cope with - and believe me the ones I got in the 50's for the Far East and Christmas Island were sometimes very difficult to deal with.  TOTALLY POSITIVE SO FAR.:D

  5. I did say I would let you know shat happened and when:  here goes.

As a result of having caught the virus (we think in September) all 3 in my 'bubble were tested and full of antibodies so my inje3ction was going to be delayed a little with a possible 5 month period of possible protection.  I got a call on Thursday and given a time this morning.  The place looked like total chaos - 10 or4 so stewards directing traffc with 2 police officers at the surgery and one of the normally unused entrances wide open.  Those able to walk were directed well away from the building so that those in chairs etc were able to park near the doors.  In effect the total chaos was exactly the opposite and the organisation inside was amazing!  There are a number od Surgeries in the building they were all combined so that there were many cubicles for injections - these grew whilst I was there and a number of staff were manning laptops for details of who and when - details of any problems and a young guy showing where one should go . I did not get chance to sit down before I was pointed to a nurse who within seconds of sitting down had injected the Pfizer in my arm and sent me to sit in another area for 10 minutes 'just in case' she said - smiling!  After that I joined a small line and was given a card with an appointment for 1st April for part 2 and gently ushered out, into the car and back home within 30 minutes of having left!  Saturday morning and unbelievable the way they have it organised.  I cannot find the point on my arm where it went in and - so far - not a single feeling or after-effect - only not to drink alcohol for a couple of days although that was advice not an instruction.

Anyone in any doubt then accept that this injection does not have any living organisms so no fear of that and everything is very, very simple - do not be daft and refuse it if your turn comes.  Will let you know in a few days time if anything changes or happens.

    Stay safe all!9_9

  6. Time for an apparent complete turn around in thinking.  I have long championed the cause of young players to be given a chance, but occasionally there is a possibility of the exact opposite being considered.  bringing in an experienced man who has not only the ability to be a useful team member, but who has the respect and leadership qualities we all admire can sometimes be worth far more than just the idea!  I have often referred to the effect which Diego had on Mesut's game at Bremen and at the moment it appears that there are discussions going on to bring Klaas Van H back to Gelsenkirchen to help out - on or off the field - even both!  Brilliant idea:congrats:

  7. Perhaps some Man City fan should start a thread on the latest sad piece of news today.  Colin Bell was one of City's greatest players - often overlooked when praise was given out for team performances he was always there - over 500 games for the club and apart from his footballing ability his personality was very special.  I was lucky enough to have interviewed him twice for local Radio - once with his mate Mike Summerbee - and I always thought of one word that summed up the guy.  His fringe, his feet, his words, his manner and his life all were fully described in whatever way you believe the word means  - Colin was decent!  So sad that he has gone so early - too early!

    Does this worry anyone else?!

    :what:

I have now dropped off the list for the moment so simple answer is (being very selfish) no! Just waiting for Trump to blame deaths on the English virus and invade the Isle of Wight. The French Rave party was the most stupid of all things happening recently and the UK guys who went there should be made to isolate on Port Mor if the Scots will have them!

I’m sorry if you’ve been asked this before, but what is your opinion of Kabak? @SchalkeUK ?

I watched and taught Joel when he was younger and Ozan has come through in a much better shape since his move from Stuttgart.  His quiet way of going about the job will fit in with the guy he based his game on - namely Virgil - and he will be a loss to us if it happens, but our loss will be Kloppy's usual good gain!

Reckon the likes of yourself, your missus, @Bluewolf and @SchalkeUK would all fit right in to the hotel mate :D

No chance - the food is blxxxx awful and food is my number 2 priority after the wine list at any hotel.  Perhaps someone will start a thread on fav drinks - beers, wines whichever - even the odd mix.  Would be nice to get a recommendation for something new I have yet to taste - vegetable and definitely not human!

  11. There appears to be a bit of panic in Gelsenkirchen this evening.  It seems to be a little early to react, but with our present dire position and a new coach taking over,  his defence could be weakened after Joel appeared to pull a groin muscle this evening.  Kloppy has never denied his interest in young Kabak and he would fill the space in the middle of the defence at Anfield which is looking slightly suspect due to injuries. Watch this space!  With the Turkish National team not having a game organised before the end of March, a change of club would not be a problem for Ozan.

  12. Whilst I was roaming around the channels last night I caught the last half of 'Race to Witch Mountain'.  Now I can't wait to watch it in full - as daft as a film I ever saw and brilliant in it's daftness - a total release from realism and with and hour or so of anyone's time providing you loved ET and Close Encounters you will not be disappointed - if you like realistic Sci-Fi then this is not for you, but the kids - old and young alike - will love it!
