And now El Salvador has put the whole country in quarantine with ZERO confirmed cases. Latinamerica is nailing this. Brazil needs to learn from the Spanish speaking countries https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the_americas/el-salvador-nayib-bukele-coronavirus-quarantine/2020/03/12/d920e9a4-6404-11ea-8a8e-5c5336b32760_story.html

Now Peru is set to close the most crowded stores such as Gamarra (a bootleg clothing store that is very popular). Let me remind you that we only have 22 cases. I'm hoping it's not a little too late with how compact Lima can be, but the reaction was instantaneous and I can only praise Martin Vizcarra for this.
-
Good to see us get recognition. Other countries really need to take lessons from us in reacting as quickly as possible.
-
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to going back to Canada. Genuinely think Peru is going to end in a better state by the end of this.
-
Nobody lives in Acre though We definitely need to close and suspend all flights from Brazil. So far Peru has done an amazing job, I just hope the population doesn't begin lying.
-
To add to this, no new cases in Peru today. Let's hope things don't escalate. So far looking good though.
-
China with 4 new cases and 1 new death. Things are looking much better for them.
-
Peru just suspended all flights to Europe and Asia. According to some Peruvians though, we aren't doing as much as the "first world countries"

Yeah, Thursdays are for Facebook watch.

I'm watching Racing vs Alianza. Behind closed doors

Absolutely. What I was trying to say though is that action is being taken quicker here than in Europe. Probably thanks to the Swine Flu and Zika outbreaks still being in fresh memory.
-
Because of winter? I know Brazil has been a bit of a mess (story of our lives) but the rest of South America has taken action immediately. Peru suspended everything when we hit 5 cases for example, in contrast it took the USA 1000 cases roughly to stop activity. The UK is still going life as normal with about 300-500 cases. It's not all because of low volume to Asia. Peru and Brazil have lots of links to Asia, and you know that.

Is the war still going on? Surely mixing it with that is the biggest worry.
-
Yeah, Brazil and Chile are the biggest worry in this whole crisis for South America. Brazil for an arrogant and frankly incompetent government, Chile because their country is out of control at the moment. Otherwise I think the measures taken have been good.
-
And yet the first worlders in third world countries are praising the way they are handling it even though South America has clearly done a much better job. Some people need to appreciate their own countries even if the standard of living isn't as high.
-
Obviously the cases currently don't represent this, but the complacency of your government is worrying. Letting those Atletico Madrid fans at Anfield, allowing the PL to go ahead, and not banning public gatherings. It's a bit worrying.
-
USA is so opinionated and gets all the stick. They've done pretty poorly in this whole situation, but the UK have done worse and are looking to become more vurnerable. Some shocking decisions made by them and yet the USA in seen in a worse light just because they talk too much.

The responses to this gave me Coronavirus. We really need to start listening to experts.

One thing that's really pissing me off is that "first world mentality" from South Americans living abroad. My parents think Canada is doing a great job at containing this, but the Ontario government only cancelled classes today and still haven't stopped large gatherings. I said they were doing a good job a few days ago, but I'm beginning to turn my head. They are taking too long to react. South America on the other hand, is trying to stop the problem before it gets worse. It took Peru 10 cases to ban everything. Canada when they hit 100 still stood by.

I am considering in staying in Peru a bit longer. Going to the airport doesn't seem too safe this time of the year and I want to help avoid the possible spread. Not only that but the whole thing will be a bureaucratic nightmare.
-
Italy really dropped the ball. 2600 more cases today. We should really aspire to be South Korea. Only 66 deaths in about 8K cases and only 54 in critical condition. Also wonder when this will reach Africa. Not sure if they've suspended flights yet but with all the cases France has it is a bit surprising. There's also that their governments aren't confirming anything.

5 new cases in Peru. 18 new cases in Canada.
